It was awesome that the Panthers won yesterday, they are now 16th in the draft next year. Where would they have been if they had lost? It looks like somewhere between 7th and 11th.
We would have picked 9th with a loss, cost us 7 positions in the draft
Geez, it's like Rivera doesn't even want to be the coach.

I have avoided this thread, been pissed since we were 6-2. Yes, I didn’t believe we were that good back then and was shocked we won 6 before our losing streak. Thank God for my Mountaineers, the Hornets and Panthers are miserable.

Sooooooooo....is Cam done? What say you about his "not serious shoulder injury"?

I honestly think he may be done for good. He "literally" can't throw a football over 30 yards.

In a way, App Football has spoiled me. I used to be a hardcore Panthers fan, and also a big fan of the Hornets. Seeing how App plays in football and that they just win has made the lackluster efforts and inconsistencies of my other teams intolerable, so I have concentrated my efforts on App football. It's had a positive affect on my life.

Weird how I like to watch close, competitive games as long as its not App football. I may never get tired of watching them kick the crap out of everyone they play. There is a real high when we go up a couple scores and the D really pins back their ears and plays super aggressive. It is fun to watch total domination.

Did some mindless research one night while talking to my brother who lives in Charlotte. We were discussing the Hornets and Panthers. I scanned some historical records for both franchises (as well as the Hurricanes). Basically all 3, historically, are .500 teams. Our NC pro franchises are historically mediocre. That is not the case for App football. Obviously we have gotten used to 10 win football seasons which is actually incredible.

The Hornets actually nearly alternate wins and losses and Panther fans know the fact that we have not had back to back winning seasons EVER.

The Canes have been playing some exciting games lately. They could make a good playoff push.

The crazy thing about the "mediocrity" is its not consistent. For the Panthers, they can be really good and then be riddled with injuries the next year. It's like what happened with Smitty getting hurt after our Superbowl year, then the slow decline of Jake Delhomme. Couldn't string good seasons together with a good team. Both Superbowls were one or two plays away from being Ws. Then look at this year, if they had half the defense we had this year combined with this Norv offense, we would probably be a 1 or 2 seed. By the time Rivera came around that Washington was clueless, it was too late and Cams shoulder was toast. This team is a few O lineman, a pass rusher, and a safety away from being great for as long as Cam can stay healthy. He finally has weapons in the pass game that he can rely on. His passing is so much better when he has confidence that the WR will actually catch the ball.

As far as the Hornets, it can be summed up like this: historically bad depth with underrated talent carrying the load. I coached HS AAU and consider myself a technically savvy basketball guy and I can easily say Kemba Walker is one of the best guards pound for pound I have ever seen play the game. He works harder than anyone in the NBA with less talent around him and doesn't get half the calls lesser players get. His mental and physical skill set is remarkable. I loved the Miles Bridges pick and he has not disappointed. He is still very raw, but I see a lot of small things that show he is a savvy player (ie. Defensive Positioning, footwork, movement without the ball). He will be a very good, if not great wing player as he develops. I just hope the Mitch can build a team around these guys and not waste them.

The Panthers haven’t been the ones doing the pounding. I’ve had season tickets,PSLs since game one. In Clemson as a matter of fact...anyway between the activism of the players and the drunkenness of the fans I haven’t been to a game in years. I haven’t missed it at all.

Gonzo would say the drunkeness of the fans is a good thing.

The thing that has me worried is Marty Hurney. Cam's shoulder could be shot and Hurney will give him a 6-year $160 mm guaranteed contract, per his own precedent. I love Cam and believe that he has elevated the Panthers beyond what most small market teams are capable of in the context of national discussion but his time may be limited. Cam has been hurt in the pocket because of a bad investment on Tackles. If the team plans on continuing to build around him, it's time to invest draft picks on the exterior positions of the offensive line. Darryl Williams will be impossible to resign because of the bad Kalil contract but draft picks can be invested. My suggestion has been to move Matt to the right side so Cam could at least see him getting beat.

I'm actually incredibly excited to see Rivera calling plays next season. As soon as he took over play calling in the second half of the Cleveland game, the defense instantly became what we were used to seeing. Rivera can do more with less on defense and it's time he utilized Norv's experience as a Head Coach to delegate some responsibility so he can take a more active role in the defense.

As for the offense, if Cam can't complete passes more than 30 yards downfield, he needs to be benched until he can. I love the guy and his attitude as a player but a QB who can't throw the ball 50 yards in the air in the NFL, especially with DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel, and Jarius Byrd, is going to be more of a detriment than a help. He was assisted in 2018 by yards after the catch which is enhanced in Norv's system. You can't rely on checkdowns and out routes for an entire season and expect to win; the back end of a defense should be forced to reckon with the speed the Panthers have drafted.

You are right about the Hurney thing. Shoulder injuries are awful and likely to linger for life. I give athletes the benefit of doubt because they are getting superior treatment and their bodies are in peak shape, but I’ve been suffering from a serious shoulder injury for 8 months now. Ive been playing sports for 20+ years and have never felt so dabilitated in my life. I can barely play catch with my son and have had to change my shooting style in basketball in the hopes to make it through this season. You can absolutely do nothing that requires torque on the arm when you have a shoulder injury. I cant imagine trying to be a NFL QB with this injury, it would be misery.

I really like what Marty has done thus far.

-He didn't jump at Darryl Williams and let the market dictate his value
-Replaced Kalil with a proven guy before the market got to competitive and drove the price up
-replaced Peppers with another veteran pass rusher with a proven record of production (alliteration)
-stabilized the secondary with a productive safety, although I don't think Reid was the best option available for a multiyear sign.
-dropped dead weight instead of clinging on too long with Matt Kalil and Funchess.

We already have some good young pieces, so alot depends on filling holes in the draft and Cam's health.

In the past 2 seasons, the Panthers first 2 picks came from the private visit list. Here is their list for this upcoming draft. Expect 2 of these guys to be a Panther next season.

OT – Tytus Howard, Alabama State
C – Erik McCoy, Texas A&M
OT – Kaleb McGary, Washington
DT – Dre’Mont Jones, Ohio State
S – Darnell Savage, Maryland
DE – Brian Burns, Florida State
DE – Montez Sweat, Mississippi State
S – Taylor Rapp, Washington
OT – Andre Dillard, Washington State
DT – Khalen Saunders, Western Illinois
QB – Clayton Thorson, Northwestern
S – Johnathan Abram, Mississippi State
CB – Byron Murphy, Washington
LB – Christian Miller, Alabama

There are also these free visits that don't count against their private visit list. Duck and Moore on this list, perhaps they will be picked up in FA by the Panthers if not drafted.

DE – Clelin Ferrell, Clemson
WR – Deebo Samuel, South Carolina
CB – Keisean Nixon, South Carolina
OG – Zack Bailey, South Carolina
WR – Anthony Ratliff-Williams, North Carolina
CB – Clifton Duck, Appalachian State
RB – Jalin Moore, Appalachian State
OG – Phil Haynes, Wake Forest
WR – Greg Dortch, Wake Forest
C – Ryan Anderson, Wake Forest
OG – Nate Davis, Charlot
