As of now, he is still in the portal.Boroneer10 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2019 5:52 pmAre we sure Collins is officially transferring? He’s still listed on the roster while Person is not. Sometimes these guys will enter their name and reconsider.

Zac and the four horsemen - Sutton, Hennigan, Williams and Virgil. I’m not concerned about WR the next two years.

The official NCAA portal can only be accessed by NCAA member schools. The one linked above is from 24/7 and is unofficial. What they did is send a message to all site managers asking them to let them know if they hear from their connections when someone enters. Most FBS schools have some sort of site but not all are worked as often as the others and some don't have a site at all. For those they have regional people with some connections and they have also put stories about their portal on their College Football page saying that players could let them know through social media if they were planning on transferring. It may not be complete but it's not all that far off and a good unofficial starting point.

the NCAA has made the environment going forward unfettered free agency, so we will have to live with it, like it or not.

Re: Jay Person?
Agree. Stranger things have happened but why would a wideout leave early? If he was like 6’4” with blazing speed and weighed 220 maybe but zero reason not to play 4 years.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 6:54 amI don’t see Sutton leaving early.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2019 9:42 pmSutton has a good season this year, he won’t be here another year.

Re: Jay Person?
Sutton is a featured receiver on a very successful team. Why would it benefit him to transfer? He would lose a year of eligibility and if he went to a power program, he would likely get buried and blend into the mix of 4 and 5 start WRs on their roster. I doubt he transfers.
The stand out players most likely to transfer are those who are very good but are having to split time or wait behind someone else and who still have a red-shirt year to burn (which Sutton doesn't).

Think they're suggesting he could enter the draft, not transfer.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:01 amSutton is a featured receiver on a very successful team. Why would it benefit him to transfer? Re: Jay Person?
Ah, ok. That would be different. I assumed that with the discussion of the portal we were talking about transfers. I still think that going into the draft early out of a G5 program is rarely a good idea. Just my opinion though.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:07 amThink they're suggesting he could enter the draft, not transfer.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:01 amSutton is a featured receiver on a very successful team. Re: Jay Person?
I would also say that we'll have more players grad transfer "up" at some point, as long as the rule stays the same. However, given Sutton's path here and experience at K-State, he doesn't strike me as the most likely guy to go that route (though he probably could if he wanted).Yosef84 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 10:14 amAh, ok. At a minimum, he's a bigger Hokie fan than App fan based on the pictures and tweets about VT everything.

Re: Jay Person?
Hall is not on scholarship so he wouldn't enter the portal to leave. He would just transfer as a student and walk on. Haven't heard anything about him leaving but I haven't asked either.appstate77 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 12:53 pmOn his FB page Blythe Hall has a V Tech logo. Is he going there?......Moose?
He's played hard on the scout team for us and earned some time on the field in each season he's been here but with our depth at his LB position he isn't going to move up the charts without some injuries.

Re: Jay Person?
We think Collins would have but we don't know. Either he felt he should start or was told he would not be in two-deep I would assume. Unless something happened with family or other personal stuff that has forced him to leave. Can anyone confirm his actual reason for leaving? He did not play in 2018 so it will not be missed production at least. I do wish him well.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2019 3:37 pmOther than Collins you are correct. He was a #2 receiver on the outside so he would have seen the field. He just would not have played much behind Hennigan and Sutton.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2019 12:48 pmTake a look at all of the names on this transfer portal.

Peyton Derrick- Was going to be 3rd string and struggled. He goes to Wofford to play at a level I thought he was probably better at anyway. I wish him well and I'm not trashing him but I think he is going to be at the level he belongs and should do well for Wofford.
Braden Collins- We have so much depth that he could not get on the field. He wants to go where he can play and I don't blame him.
Mock Adams- Has had a lot of injuries. Just was not going to play and I thought he may retire anyway.
Jay Person- Could not get on the field and he wants to play. I don't blame him.
Keaton Forbes- When you sign a big time LS I don't blame this kid for going. Drink was likely going to play the other kid.
All of these are good since they can go play elsewhere and be happy and we have scholarships freed up to possibly go sign 20-25 guys in the 2020 class. We have not had anyone who really played or was a standout leave and that is good to see. I do wish all of these guys well and hope they are happy in their new place.
Also, while we didn’t lose anyone that we counted on, we still lost depth. In particular Collins’ departure creates some issues should Hennigan or Sutton go down.

Re: Jay Person?
I could see Sutton thinking he could leave early. With another big year he possibly could but I think if he wants to be a high draft pick he should stay four years. Duck leaving could make him think he should leave since he would be in much better shape than Duck or it may scare him. Hopefully Sutton stays and I think he probably would but if his goal was to just be drafted mid rounds, at least, he could likely go with one more big year.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 6:54 amI don’t see Sutton leaving early.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2019 9:42 pmSutton has a good season this year, he won’t be here another year.

Re: Jay Person?
Don’t know why he left but I do believe he projected on the 2-deep. Given that he was a RS freshman, seems reasonable to think he might have started later on.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 8:32 pmWe think Collins would have but we don't know. Also Adams did play a good bit last year and would have likely done the same this year. He just wasn’t targeted often. Got onto the field with his blocking.
