Re: UConn leaving the AAC
FWIW, App gear is widely available in SC, including the Upstate and Columbia. In the Grand Strand there are several local vehicles with App insignia, as well as vehicles from other states with App gear amongst vacationers. My point is were are moving out of NW NC into broader parts of the country.

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
This might have been posted on this thread already, but here’s a link to what the talking heads at CBS think. They make some valid points about the Acadamies and larger regional schools, but we get a mention towards the end. Personally, I think the AAC would do wonders for us if we want to stay in the top 40 teams in America year-in/year-out.

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
A few thoughts:
1. Yes, it'd be awesome and we'd take it if offered. It's fun to think about, but is a pipedream at this point.
2. App has a bigger sports following in Charlotte than Charlotte.
3. ECU would probably be pretty miserable if App did join.
4. Georgia Southern sucks

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
I think ECU was supportive of App joining CUSA while they were there (if memory serves) but I'm not sure that they would support us joining the AAC. The players have changed and the stakes are higher. I just don't think App is a realistic consideration for the AAC at this point.

Agreed on all accounts. ECU would probably be miserable at first, but I think they’d welcome an annual game with us eventually. I think it would be awesome if we could set up a permanent game in Charlotte a la worlds largest outdoor cocktail party.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 7:33 amA few thoughts:

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
Has anyone trolled the ECU message board to take their temperature on the thought?
Edit:
Please no. USM is in a perpetual bad money situation. UAB is decent now, but it wouldn’t take a whole lot for them to lose that momentum and become the UAB that poofed out of existence. App St is good, but we don’t need them elevated. It would be like elevating FAU right in USF and UCF’s back yard.

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
And another...
Isn’t that rich coming from our fan base. The same fan base that gets upset when unc, state, South Carolina won’t come to Greenville for a ballgame now has the balls to say “we don’t want to elevate a program.” Elevate? Hell, over the last couple years, App woulda put an ass whooping on us like state did last year.

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
I've read a large number of their posts. Generally not supportive of App as a consideration for the AAC. Simply put, ECU has seen their better days in my opinion. Our time will come. Baseball is back on the rise. Kerns will turn our basketball program around.

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
App won't get invited. Basketball is bad, baseball is bad. The budget isn't there to even be in the conversation. Houston just made a deal with a coach on par with P5 schools.
App football would compete right away in my opinion. I think a range of 9-3 to 6-6 would be possible but App would be competitive. I think App of 2018 would match-up well with the top schools of the AAC last year based on what I saw. Was UCF good? Yes. Were they unbeatable? No. App has the players and coaching to compete with almost anyone on any given Saturday; sans Alabama, Clemson, Georgia

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
Lol I don’t troll them but do post on their 247 board every now and then. Yeah you’re spot on - any reason I’ve seen out of ECU fans to not add App is basically “no, just another school we’d have to recruit against”. I didn’t want to start an argument over there but yeah it does seem like more of a fear thing than anything. I get we don’t match the academic profile of many, if any of the schools in the AAC, but it’s an athletic conference - and to that point i don’t see why we don’t belong, other than $$$ i suppose.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:39 amHas anyone trolled the ECU message board to take their temperature on the thought?

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
The CBS Sports article seems flawed in several ways.
Didn’t Army basically turn down AAC/Big East before? What has changed?
Boise St jilted Big East so don’t see that happening.
There are other options but IF AAC is interested in going back to 12 we may look like a viable candidate. What is going in our favor right now is our football stock is at its highest ever. That definitely works in our favor. Timing is everything in the reorg game and this time we are in a very good position. The last time we were working from a point of weakness, now we are working from a point of strength.

Re: UConn leaving the AAC
Even if we don't join the AAC, a game with ECU should still be scheduled annually, in Charlotte. Maybe the crowd and atmosphere in 2021 impresses both schools A.D. and the city of Charlotte to where they make it happen.BallantyneApp wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 8:28 amAgreed on all accounts. By now we should know without any doubt that our AD is doing everything within his power to do all the things which make sense for us. Trust him. He knows what he is doing. Who knows where this development could lead?
