So this is how 49'ers fans propose to get to home games?

In the crowd leaving a game these types of crime are much less likely to happen I would think.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

I've used the light rail quite a bit and never had a bit of a problem. I'm sure things happen, but if you use good sense you'll be fine.

I guess the elderly man who got beat up was not using good sense. :(

One of their posters on here talked as if it was being used for daily commutes.

Going to have to put cops on the trains and at the stations

Charlotte is having a heck of a hard time finding and hiring cops.

I've ridden the light rail countless times and have never seen anything to make me feel unsafe. This is alarmist trash and why no one watches local news anymore.

I know of several specific incidents where someone was beaten senseless on and around the light rail. All of those examples were poor people being beaten by the G4S Special Police.

Crime happens everywhere. I guess we should all stay locked up safe in our homes. Oh wait, people get killed and robbed there too. Whatever will we do?

I believe the intent of the post was supposed to be a swipe at UNCCharlotte, however, with the city of Charlotte being a home base for a large portion of us, there will be many that take offense. I rode the light rail daily for 2 years from 2010-2012, and ride it occasionally now for leisure. I get on at the Tyvola station and I am always on my guard. I get approached frequent enough for handouts to not be surprised when I get asked and there are a few crazies that ride the train, but all in all, it pales in comparison to the NYC subway. For instance, I've never witnessed someone taking a dump on the lightrail.

Let me offer another example, one of a G4S officer being beaten senseless by a thug. I am not sure anyone had an opportunity to discuss personal finances before the assault began.

No one can really dispute the fact that Charlotte has become a very violent city

Property crime is significantly high in Charlotte, however, violent crime is just slightly higher than the state average. I guess I should change my signon to No One.

In 2017 Charlotte was ranked the 28th “deadliest city” in the country. Murder rates went up drastically in 2017 and in 2019 they are double the number compared to 2018. In late April of 2019 the city had 44 murders compared to 14 in the same time frame for 2018. More than 10 murders per month. Maybe that’s an acceptable rate for you, “no one”, but that seems like an awful violent place to me. Somebody is getting murdered in Charlotte ever three days.

Like any big city Charlotte has big city crime. However, as the 17th largest city, if we are the 28th deadliest maybe we are doing better than one might expect. Sure, any crime is too much, but realistically that isn't going to happen. Having lived here for the past 24 years I don't go places--don't need to go places--that I don't feel safe.

I'm not disputing statistics. Murders are bad regardless, and obviously having ANYBODY attacked at the light rail stations is not "OK". I don't know if the elderly gentlemen was using good sense or not, but I'm certainly not going to turn it around and try to blame him. My point is simply that I work uptown Charlotte, and have used the light rail quite a bit, including the game against Charlotte last fall. There will always be some low life who picks a location to prey on vulnerable individuals. Painting the light rail as a generally "dangerous" environment is just not accurate though, especially if you're using it with a group or during the day or peak times (commuting hours or a game).

I hate to hear about anybody being victimized by creeps like that.

Sounds like a typical Atlanta Friday night on MARTA.
