Fan Fest 2019

Unread post by appstate24 » Tue Jul 23, 2019 10:07 pm

I noticed Fan Fest is set for August 10th this year. I can’t seem to find a time. Has anyone heard what time the festivities start? I can’t remember the times from last year. GO APPS!!

Any updates on a time yet. Seems crazy that Fan Fest is a little over a week away and we haven’t communicated a time to the public (unless I missed it).

Need to get that weekend planned and this is a big part of it.

GO APPS!!

The details should be out soon. From what I understand, there will be an open practice followed by access to the field and student-athletes from all 20 varsity sports. The open practice portion (again, my understanding) will be open to everyone and not just Yosef Club members.

Anyone in the know, have any indications of when the scrimmage/practice will start? Will it start at 3:00 or will it be the last thing of the day?

The blurb says that the fan "engagement" time will be roughly 4:00 - 4:45 after the football practice. I'm guessing that means I'll want to be early to catch what I can of football. See you at The Rock!

Thanks for that Daphne! The parking part was the first question we needed answered.

I thought the event itself was well done. It was set up under the east side and it was great to have all the athletes from the other fall sports there. I really didn’t see a lot of the scrimmage but what I did see was very low contact stuff which I can’t take much from. I know they have parking and getting into the stadium figured out but I would say from what I saw up there today you better come early and pack a bunch of patience.

Outside of a few good defensive plays, including a pick 6, the offense (to me) was much more dominant. OL>DL and a lot of open space for receivers. There were two double reverse pass plays but both took to long to develop and resulted in a throw away and TFL. I don't recall seeing a snap under center. Victor Johnson remained sidelined during team drills. The practice itself and team drills were high tempo despite being low contact.

From my perspective, first team O and first team D both had good and bad moments. Zac threw a pick six on a ball that should have been heaved out of bounds. The receiver never had a chance. He was well covered. I saw 2 missed assignments that resulted in TDs. Of course it was not full contact so take it for what its worth. Since there was no live hitting I dont think it is possible to make any judgement on the running game.

Before we were let in I could see action from the gate. Saw a skirmish between what looked like a D lineman and a TE. They were locked up and kept going after the whistle had blown. Ended up on the ground with players pulling them apart. They kept jawing for another minute or two. This is a spirited family!

DGB had one tremendous throw with a defender in his face. It was a laser that resulted in a TD. Side note, he appeared to favor his right knee on a few occasions and was wearing a brace.

Coach Roof was "teaching with enthusiasm" when assignments were missed. He looked very passionate. Drink doesn't look 25 anymore with the light beard coming in. I still love his demeanor.

If they want good attendance to these events, they need to publish times and hype it up more than a few days in advance. Most of the fanbase lives off the mountain and can't get to Boone on short notice. At least two weeks notice should be the standard.

Besides the scrimmage, it was confusion. You came down on the field and was supposed to get a poster and get it signed along an assembly line of players. However the inflatables and various sponsor tents were past there. If security stopped you at one point, you walked to the next and went forward and mingled. What occurred had little resemblance to the schedule posted. Even security wasn't sure what was going on or what to do at points.

It wasn't bad because it wasn't a lot of people, so it was more personable. The student-athletes are always gracious. Just need to flesh out more organization, more stations and put yourself in a position to be successful when you have lots more people show up down the road. I still think coaches flag football would be a hit. Imagine Ted Roof playing flag football.

As far as the scrimmage, Drinkwitz is trying to give the fans an offensive show at times, but it's all familiar plays.

Agreed, spirited, enthusiastic players and Roof seemed to be the most enthusiastic coach from my perspective. The concessions ran out of everything (which I’m sure wasn’t much for this event) within 30 minutes when cold bottled water was needed. I wish I would have at least carried in my boys’ water bottles. Posters ran out on one side quickly, so fans grabbed them out of a box on the other end of the track...saw lots of grown men taking 5 or more of them when my kids were waiting patiently to get one. This wasn’t as organized as the last time we attended 2 or 3 years ago. The student athletes were very gracious with the kids, though, after practicing in the heat.

I’ve noticed in video clips and again today a RB, #45 is being used a lot, although I don’t see an offensive player with #45 on the roster. I assume he’s a freshman.

I'm so bad with names.... I was joking with him on the field that it was about time we got a full back.... Gabe Montgomery I believe.

D wasn't fooled at all on either double reverse. I agree totally they took too long develop.
