Daetrich Harrington is a great talent. Could be a sleeper on offense. He will have to fight for touches but he’s a stud. Excited is an understatement... GO APPS!!

My recollection is that Harrington has a bit of a fumble problem in the first game when he was forced into service a couple of years ago but he focused, listened to coaches and worked hard and did really well after that. He's definitely got talent although he is small. I imagine they'll find a way to get him some touches.

I've been very impressed with Williams also. He's got good size and speed. I think we should have used him more last year on short yardage downs, but that's just my armchair opinion.

The amazing thing are that these are probably our #3 and #4 backs (maybe co-3) so I'm really excited to see how things develop. Drink HAS to be pumped about all the weapons on this team!

GO APPS!

With all the RB talent I hope again to see more 2 RB sets.

Harrington likely would have been the starter after J Moore went down had he not been injured prior. We have four backs that could start against ETSU , and throughout the season for that matter.

Speaking of RBs... here’s their position profile update.

Some rookies pushing returning players.

Ryker Casey (freshman kicker) getting a mention during Coach Link’s recent after practice interview for KOs and FGs.

Posting a link of him kicking at Kohl’s Senior kicking camp earlier this year. https://kohlskicking.com/player-profiles/ryker-casey

Craig MacFarland (freshman OL) and Lyle Hiers (freshman OL) getting mentioned by Coach Clark as pushing for #2 on OL depth chart in recent after practice interview.

I read posts of folks worried to death about depth at certain positions- namely the Oline. There is a tendency to forget that we have younger guys getting bigger and stronger by the day who will push for playing time.

I’m not sure a couple 270 lb. true freshmen possibly being 2nd team at the tackle spots is a *positive* indicator about our depth there. Encouraging for the future, though.

Noah Hannon has started every game since his freshman year and performed well. We have outstanding talent as starters, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if a true freshman bumped one of them to number 2. Its all about perspective.

Yes, if all true freshmen were as ready as Hannon, that would be great. But he’s the rare exception to the rule, especially at a program where our MO is to recruit guys with good frames and use their redshirt year to bulk them up.

And no one’s saying anything about these freshmen pushing the starters. We know those guys are good.

That's a fair point.

Depth is the issue....Finding road graders is tough.
Line will need more balanced skills than road grading in this offense.

Ericsaid sometimes you just miss the point..roadgraders, hog mollies big uglies all euphemisms for OL and we are dangerously short in the depth dept

I think both of you made fair points, Rek. We need both assets.

If we are going to a faster up tempo offense do we really want 6’5” 300 lb guys up front? Can “larger” linemen keep up the pace? Granted we need larger than 270 lb freshmen but to completely dismiss the possibility that a freshman just might be ready to provide some depth is strange thinking.

1) I didn’t completely dismiss the possibility, just suggested that perhaps it might say as much about the unproven veterans who haven’t been able to crack the rotation as it does the freshmen. Is there any doubt that, all things being equal, we’d prefer to redshirt OL?

2) They’re not lighter because we’re moving to smaller linemen, they’re just 18-year-olds who haven’t been through college S&C yet. They’ll be at 300 or very close to it in a year or two.

3) Yes, teams who play fast still want big linemen.

Obviously, that’s one of the most notable separations between G5 and P5..... Big OR Fast vs. Big AND Fast....
