Interesting piece; especially the part about some of our fans are still arguing that we should have stayed at the FCS level. I know that subsection of our fan base exists but I don't really see them out and about anymore. Our program has grown by leaps and bounds since the move, I have yet to see a negative. We constantly compete for conference championships, win bowl games, recruit at a higher level(student athletes and coaches). The next step is beating P5s consistently, and I honestly believe that is on the verge of happening. As always it is a great day to be a Mountaineer!!!

Some people still think the Earth is flat, but that doesn't mean we're still arguing about it.

This is impressive, we should only continue to climb the rankings for the next 50 years. I was really glad to the see the Eagles are well below us at 48th on the list. While I was reading I was worried their 6 titles would put them ahead of us, thankfully it didn't.

One of the biggest (if not the biggest) sports media organizations in the world, love them or hate them, just ranked App State football program #34 all time over last 150 years and you focus in on the blurb about FCS vs FBS...I think most will agree at this point that it was a good move.

Just enjoy what has been built and continues to be built in Boone...if you are a fan of a college football program that's a pretty cool list to be on...no reason to look any deeper into the article...just sit back, crack a Yosef Golden, and smile.

If they appropriately weighed our FBS accomplishments vs our FCS accomplishments we would be higher than 34.

Obviously the decision to move up was the correct one, and the only way to stay relevant. Excited to continue to climb and improve the App State brand.

With that being said, I do miss the process of the playoffs, and the achievements of beating the best of the best (of a common subset) to become champion.
Maybe one day we can be in the playoff discussion along with the likes of Notre Dame, UCF, etc..

If this is directed at me than I must apologize because that means my first post has the wrong tone. My point is that I don't believe we are arguing about the move any more but rather we are reveling in the moment. I love that we are listed at #34 on the top 150 over the past 150 by the biggest sports media outlet in the country. Again it's always a great day to be a Mountaineer.

True, but we still haven't beaten a P-5 while in FBS. Close ones, but no cigar. Maybe this season we will defeat two...USC and UNC.

I groaned audibly when they said North Carolina.

If the earth is flat why does it feel like I'm climbing when I drive up the mountain?

Look at UCF's history as they moved up to FBS. It took them some years before they starting winning any "P5" battles, over 10 yrs against a 6-6 NCSU team. Even initially they had some very inconsistent years up and down with a P5 win here or there. That is what makes our journey more impressive because we have been consistent. Now we have another challenge to maintain that with a mostly new coaching staff. The point is, we are at the top tier of G5 and can start winning some of those P5 matchups now. That should be the next rung on the ladder for this program.

Actually had a flat earthier ask me one time if we could use surveying equipment to prove if the earth was flat or a sphere. We were standing about 10 feet from a 30 foot deep gully and you could see Crowders mountain in the distance. I just point to both, said nothing and walked off.

People can believe whatever they want as long as they don't believe the ETSU game is what fan's focus should be on.

That's cool...with a new coaching staff I'm not going to hold them for not ranking us higher.

Now we need to add some P5 heads to our wall so people can finally stop talking about the Michigan win...hopefully this year it happens finally.

Several months ago, our Stats & Information Group was presented with a huge challenge: to rank the top programs in college football history.

Our goal: Honor the accomplishments of teams across 150 seasons and all divisions, while rewarding successful programs at the highest level in the sport's most competitive era.

This is an article about "best programs in last 150 years", not this years ranking. This is like a "pound for pound" list in boxing, meaning the best all around fighters regardless of weight class...and App is #34 and only NC school to make the list. So, according to this article, App State is one of 50 best programs of ALL TIME...pretty amazing.
