Is there a fund to contribute specifically for this? Coach Moore earned this and it should be a show piece at our stadium. Count me in for helping pay for this honor so greatly deserved.

I wouldn’t be opposed to naming the whole stadium after him to be honest.
Jerry Moore Field at Kid Brewer Stadium maybe?

The field has already been named.
That's just from a contribution right? Seems like it should have more meaning than just a donation name plate.

I agree, Overcashed but that's not the way it works.

I like the statue and plaza idea better than naming the field turf.

The university's naming policy can be found here: https://policy.appstate.edu/Naming_of_F ... d_Programs

The most relevant snippets:
4.6.1. The duration of a benefactor's or honoree's name on any facility or unit ordinarily continues for as long as the facility or unit is used in the same manner or for the same purpose for which the naming occurred. Upon demolition, replacement, substantial renovation, re-designation of purpose, or similar modification of a named facility or unit, the University may deem that the naming period has concluded. The appropriate University representative will make all reasonable efforts to inform in advance the original benefactors or honorees or their surviving family members when the naming period is deemed to have concluded.
4.6.4. In exceptional circumstances, additional names may be added to a facility, unit or program in recognition of an additional gift even if the prior benefactor's or honoree's naming period has not concluded, subject to any specific terms and conditions set forth in the original naming agreement. Hyphenation is one method for jointly naming a facility or unit.
So Moore-Murphy Field, or even Brewer-Moore Stadium, are technically possibilities if a donor steps forward with a gift that justifies the rename. But no one's scrubbing a donor name for an honorary name.

But I think the statue and plaza is a great move.

Thank you for this. Absolutely right. Coach Moore deserves a lot of recognition, but donors who gave substantial gifts deserve what they paid for, honestly.

Isn't there already a statue of Jerry Moore playing guitar on King Street?

I like this idea. Athletics is the "front porch" of our university and the "front porch" of our stadium is now named for a great coach! I feel like this is a fitting tribute for a great coach who played a significant role in elevating our program and in the development of App athletes for almost a quarter century.

Coach Moore was the perfect coach for App State when he was hired in 1989. He was humble, dedicated and brought the experience, knowledge and commitment needed to grow our program. His commitment provided a stability that few programs EVER know and that is what allowed our program's roots grow deep.

I never claimed Jerry Moore was perfect. I've yet to meet a perfect man. I do believe he is a VERY good man who represented our university with dignity and I was always proud to have him wearing the Black & Gold!

Congratulations, Coach! And, Thank you!

Only thing is the PTB ever get around to lowering the field, the Moore name could be dropped.

I love that man. He's been a great mentor to me both in accountability and encouragement.... on that note:

Just make sure to leave an asterisk stating he let the program decline in his later years so that some of you bastards can be appeased.

NoLongerlurking, was that last sentence necessary? It totally negates what you said in the first sentence.
