I think it’s closer to 8. DG wants it to be consistently around 10k before we do any major expansion I think.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 12:26 pmWhich is how many? 6K?Yosef10 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 12:05 pmYou guys do know that we are at a record high of season ticket sales for this season, right?appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 5:58 amThis, for me, raises two really good points. It's not closer to 8. I wish it were, but it's not. ECU on the other hand is STILL somehow around 12. We have a small fanbase. The team is not what "holds us back". We just have very few fans.beav910 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 1:24 pmI think it’s closer to 8. Re: Attendence??
ODU has 15,000 season ticket holders. You will never convince me that they have a bigger or more passionate fan base than ours. So what’s the difference? Scarcity. They have a 20,000 seat stadium that sells out every game. We would have the exact same “problem” if we didn’t have a hill 50 yards away from the field where people can stroll up on game day and get a 10$ ticket. People need more incentive to financially support a program than just a “good feeling out of the goodness of their heart”.

It's always something, too hot, too cold, rain, dry, kids, hill... We have a small fanbase. None of those things matter with a bigger fanbase.

Hmmm who to believe, the AD who is on the public record or Yosef’s Cabin poster? Toss up there. You don’t recognize the differences between us and ECU? Like 30k undergrads, located in a town of more than 90k. Easily accessible in the eastern part of the state where the vast majority of their grads live. Things don’t happen in a vacuum.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 1:28 pmIt's not closer to 8. I wish it were, but it's not. ECU on the other hand is STILL somehow around 12. Re: Attendence??
Gosh, that is really my point. App and Clemson are basically the same size. Boone and Clemson are basically the same size. GA State is bigger than App and Clemson combined. Atlanta is obviously bigger than Boone and Clemson combined. University size clearly matters. Population in proximity to the University clearly matters. We way outdraw GAST because we have a bigger fanbase, not because Boone is big or App is big. Fanbase size matters and is an issue for us. That is all.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 2:34 pmHmmm who to believe, the AD who is on the public record or Yosef’s Cabin poster? Toss up there. I don’t see how you can ignore the other factors. We have a passionate and good sized fan base for a G5 school. That’s a fact.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 2:54 pmGosh, that is really my point. App and Clemson are basically the same size. Boone and Clemson are basically the same size. We just need to figure out how to get more people to pony up and donate/buy season tickets. Their are certainly ways to do that, but saying “our fan base sucks, woe is me” is not one of them. And it’s also not true.

Re: Attendence??
That's not what I'm saying at all. We have a great fanbase. It is small. And I think a passionate fanbase might have produced more than 14kish for a championship game. My point is that we need to grow the base before any next step.Appftw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 3:26 pmI don’t see how you can ignore the other factors. Re: Attendence??
The 10k+ that didn’t show up for the championship game knew that their was a chance they would have to sit in the rain on a cold, wet hill 50 yards away from the game with an awful viewing angle. We have to try to give fans a better experience than they can have at home with ESPN3. That’s not an excuse, it’s just the reality of our current stadium which is far from ideal in a lot of ways. The hill is a detriment.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 3:32 pmThat's not what I'm saying at all. We have a great fanbase. It is small. Re: Attendence??
Some great points here. I tend to believe we have a rather decent size fan base. Look at michigan, va tech, Penn state...we travel in larger numbers than many mid level and lower p5 teams. (Ever seen a boston college, pitt or duke road crowd).
That being said, there are 3 factors that many die hard who believe in no excuses must recognize to be true if we ever want change to happen.
1. Boone is extraordinarily difficult to walk. Our older fans who cant afford (what used to be) stadium lot parking cannot handle it. When I was a student my parents were in their early 50s and chose to only come to 1 game a year because it was such a trek. I hope the new parking situation in 2020 will help that a bit. Though it's very odd to me that buses dont just drop people off right at the stadium like many college teams do.
2. The hill is a catastrophe. It brings us great memories of packed Halloween nights, but even the students are tired of it. Many fans cant afford to bring their families and pay for seats. So they buy general admission and they settle for the hill. The hill hurts to sit on for that long, has no atmosphere, bad vantage point (and same side as the video board) and is often damp and a terrible time. We need to sell seat tickets for general admission prices and once demand causes it, then you raise prices and expand.
3. App was a much smaller school pre 2000's. Enrollment skyrocketed, but those same students are in prime grind working years (aged 25-35). We haven't had a chance for our biggest alumni group to settle down and buy season tickets or return more frequently. My dad's a unc grad and didnt go back to games until his mid 40s. Your pushing for a career, raising a new family and likely broke. I'm in this group and many of my college friends love App football, but money is tight at this time in life.
We had big crowds 2007-2013 as app alumni (and larger student enrollments) flocked to see our new nationally recognized team and expanded stadium. We still have our fans...they didnt all die, but their experience getting to and in the stadium dictate how frequent they return. I live within 2 hours and make 4 games a year, but my wife and 2 kids only come once a year because of the walk from affordable parking to the stadium is too much for them to enjoy coming every week with me.
Many will disagree, but I believe this to be legitimate reasons espn3 is a better option for alot of folks.

It was hot today but the hill was packed and east siders showed up despite the heat. Football Saturdays keep bring a great energy to Boone and we did win by 35. Beat UNCC

Not sure what caused it. But seemed way more crowded. Guess just the construction related stuff. Kids pushing me to get through after the team walked through and they opened it back up.

Seemed waaay more than that. Have seen us post that many when appeared half full. I had guessed about 28k prior to announcement. Don't know how they count but largest crowd to the eye in some time.
