Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
Well it looks like she has won 1 of her first 4. I don't have to do the math on win percentage for the folks here to understand how poor that is. And can we really be proud beating UNCA in any sport? I mean they only had 3 wins last year themselves.
I sure hope DG has Strickland on the hot seat at this point...

Next game is tonight at CHARLOTTE. Charlotte also had a losing record last year...let's see if we can at least net a goal.

So Sarah Strickland has been able to win 1 of the first 6...I think those who were unaware are starting to hear what I was saying now...there's no way that her seat isn't getting at least a little warm...

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
She's got 5 out with torn ACL's or other significant leg injuries and is having to play true freshmen in key roles. Those freshmen are having to grow up fast for the difference in the college game. I'll cut her some slack just like I did Angel Elderkin when she only had 8 healthy players.BooneKarate wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:16 amSo Sarah Strickland has been able to win 1 of the first 6...I think those who were unaware are starting to hear what I was saying now...there's no way that her seat isn't getting at least a little warm...

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
When is her contract up? Seems to be the relevant question. And btw I don't share the blind faith in DG ,although I do support him.[Jim Fox extension]

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
The contracts on the athletics website says that her contract was up in May and I don't see a story of any contract extension. So maybe DG does have her on thin ice...It may have been a very short extension as a do or die year...

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
I hear you on this, but...but there is a big difference between 2nd year Angel Elderkin and 10th year Sarah Strickland...It's tough for me to get past the fact that she hasn't won more than half of her games since 2012. If Angel goes 7 years without winning more than half of her games, I'll put them on equal ground. But I don't see that happening with Angel.DaphneUrquhart wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:33 amShe's got 5 out with torn ACL's or other significant leg injuries and is having to play true freshmen in key roles. Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
That's a great question. I don't know where to look that up. I am fairly certain that it is the same as Men's Soccer though. Just a hunch based off of Title 9 rules. Men's Soccer is currently 3-1 though. And O'Keefe is only in his third year if I'm not mistaken. I believe he inherited an equally poor program to Women's Soccer and has it trending upwards.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 10:57 amHow many full athletic scholarship players does she have?BooneKarate wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:16 amSo Sarah Strickland has been able to win 1 of the first 6...I think those who were unaware are starting to hear what I was saying now...there's no way that her seat isn't getting at least a little warm...

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
Because of Title IX, its actually possible that the women are allowed to have more scholarships. That, however, doesn't mean that App meets the max because of the lack of finances.BooneKarate wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2019 11:58 amThat's a great question. I don't know where to look that up. The NCAA allows men and women to both issue partial scholarships. The men can have 21 and the women 25 players on scholarship.

The men are granted 9.9 scholarships and the women 14. I seriously doubt that we max out on either.

The roster is actually pretty well stacked with high level players. A number of them from the CLT metro area that were really standouts in HS and club play. I have an idea, SS can depart and sign on with the Panthers as an assistant; similar results from good talent on paper.

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
If we have good players and we still aren't winning, then how does Strickland still have her job? She must have one heck of a sales pitch to DG at this point...or he could care less about Women's Soccer.ugmw177 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 9:09 amThe roster is actually pretty well stacked with high level players. Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
With regards to Coach Strickland, in 10 years she has won 40% of her games. That, in and of itself, is not an awful record, but isn't anything to get excited about either. She has had 4 winning seasons and one .500 season (last year). If you speak to the girls on the team, she is not a popular coach. Suffice to say, she does not get the most out of her players. As far as her future, that depends on Doug. If he is happy with a 40% winning percentage and a disgruntled group of girls, that is his call.

Re: Women's Soccer - Sarah Strickland
It's crazy how the cabin is willing to openly call for the firing of the men's basketball coach (Fox), but when it comes to women's soccer, very few care enough to have her sitting on the hot seat. Perks of coaching a team fans don't care enough about playing a sport that most fans don't care to watch.
