Beer $9.00 a Can

Unread post by NewApp » Mon Sep 09, 2019 7:51 am

Got some beer numbers from App State last week.

On Friday, I learned that 6,030 cans of beer were purchased at App State’s season opener on Sept. 1. Thirty-five percent (about 2,110 cans) of that was Yosef Golden Ale.

That means nearly $18,995 (at $9 per can) was spent on YGA alone.

If the other 65 percent of beer cans purchased (3,920) were all domestic options (at $7 per can), you’re talking about an additional $27,440. If that 65 percent was made up of the craft options, you’re talking an additional $35,280.

So at the least, App State saw a total of $46,435 in beer purchases. At most, it was $54,275. That’s not profit. That’s purely the total money fans spent on beer that day.

I tweeted this info out when I got it, but I wanted to share it with you guys. That's a decent little chunk of change, but it'll take some time to figure out how much of that will turn into profit.

That's it this week, folks. I'll see you guys when it's App State-North Carolina game week.

Take care and thanks for reading,

Maybe a better title for your thread would be "Beer Sales at KBS a Rousing Success!"

Yep. Still $9.00 a can. $54.00 a six pack. Man would I like to own a convenience store (or a bar) with that action. Wouldn't you.
Glad we made a nice profit though. Rather it go to us than Applebees.

Considering that's for craft beer that sells for $6 a pint at the brewery, it's really not that bad of a price...

Add in the fees for the catering companies that were hired to serve the beer, and App isn't making THAT much per beer.

As I mentioned in a previous post...I would have loved it if the prices set up at $5 domestic and $7 craft, believing we might actually sell enough "extra" at those prices to make even more $$ than at current prices, but alas. Nonetheless, $9 for a 16 oz craft product, especially one created and emblazoned for us, really is a reasonable price by today's entertainment standards.

Agree, sorta like a Pepsi in a souvenir cup.

Agree if it was $5/$7 I think they would sell much more.

Wonder if they may try lowering prices for games that normally wouldn't be as well attended?

With ice. Was your beer nice and cold?

But do they want to sell more? I've been to dollar beer nights that get pretty sloppy.

$7/9 is expensive enough that most people aren't going to have more than a couple at the game, especially considering the lines, but certainly not the highest I've seen at a venue.

I'd like to see more points of sale for beer, but then again I'd like to see more points of sale for everything. A $9 price tag didn't scare me away from buying a beer, but those lines sure did.

If my math and thinking is correct....

$7 per pint is about a 23% reduction in price.
Per the numbers in the original post, we sold 2110 cans for a total of $18,990
At $7 per can you have to sell 2,712 cans of YGA to get to the same dollar amount of $18,990.
That's an increase of 29% +/- (602 cans) just to get to break even point.

Color me skeptical that we would have sold that many more.

Don't get me wrong....who doesn't love lower beer prices, but I've got an extra $2 per can if that's what it takes to make this a worthwhile profit stream for our school
