I think the article is wrong. I was a freshman the fall of 79 and we didn't have Western at home that season. It was the year before. I had just made the decision to attend App as a Senior in high school and I stumbled across the App/Western game on a crazy new network focused only on sports. It was the first App game I watched and it was so cool to see my future school on TV.
Pretty sure it was '78.
