If there is a coach on the team that has any fire to them at all, they will be screaming this in the ear of every player.
Someone needs to have some fire on the sidelines, and if this doesn’t do it, nothing will.

I’ll take it in another direction. If a coach needs to add anything else afterward to fire them up, then the Mountain isn’t the place for them. Things like this is why there is a chip on the shoulder of every true Mountaineer in all we do. We might not advertise it, but it’s there.

You know I haven’t really looked at the bench area this year. Has no one stepped up and taken over Iron Mikes role.

Based on the interviews I heard earlier in the season, it seemed like Roof was the highly animated, motivational coach who got them up.

Honestly, while I think fans have a few legitimate reasons for concern based on our team's first couple games, getting the team sufficiently motivated for this next game would not be on the list for me.

Well, maybe it'll be reverse of last week with a complacent home team taking on an opponent which they are expecting to beat easily taking on a team who's had this game circled on their calendar for three years and gnashing at the bit to make a statement.

That scene has not aged well since 2005.

But Carolina fans don’t know that.

I agree with the writer. We need to tune things up during our game against the holes. Especially on defense.

I agree. If there is a silver lining to the game Saturday, I would say that it should have served as a "wake up call" for any player or coach who might have been a bit complacent or who might need focus (whatever the cause might be). I really don't think we will have those problems in this next game, and hopefully not for the remainder of the year. If we are able to get that wake up call and still have a "W", that could be a good thing...assuming everyone responds accordingly.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 7:33 pmHonestly, while I think fans have a few legitimate reasons for concern based on our team's first couple games, getting the team sufficiently motivated for this next game would not be on the list for me.

The phrasing is interesting. "Two" tune up games. At least in the Wake one they are underdogs.

If you look at the schools, App State should lose this game. App has roughly 19,000 students while UNC has roughly 29,000. I am glad that we are being overlooked... Winning will be much more sweeter!

Re: SI writer refers to Appalachian State as “Tune up game” for UNC
Some folks wanted to go ahead and write in a "W" for this game based on their record last year but most seemed to recognize it would be a tough game. Now, after two games, App is off to a slower start and UNC is exceeding expectations. We aren't viewed as favorites anymore but I expect the line to be pretty tight. All that does it set it up as a higher quality win if we can pull it off.

I think Carolina is the only one that call it a "Tune Up" game when they are considered the dog by all the professionals and analyst.

UNC should then take care of Clemson since they only have 21k students.ASUGrad2014 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 8:02 amIf you look at the schools, App State should lose this game. And UNCC should have creamed us. Liberty should be top of the heap, if we can include online students.TheMoody1 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 8:52 amUNC should then take care of Clemson since they only have 21k students.ASUGrad2014 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 8:02 amIf you look at the schools, App State should lose this game. Yes and we should schedule a tune-up game against Notre Dame.appchicago wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 9:30 amAnd UNCC should have creamed us. It sounds like does not understand the college football landscape outside of the P5 conference world, and is just throwing out the old tropes from yesteryear.

FRIDAY? Again? that’s 3 weeks in a row playing on Friday night? how odd.
