AppStfan1 is right, it’s more beneficial for the SMUs, Memphis, Boise’s to lose in a few more weeks than now. Our next big step would be to burst ULLs little bubble high they are on and crush them by 20 points or so. Most likely, that would do the trick in propelling us to the top 25.

For NY6 purposes, it matters little if any when a team loses; they use the “body of work” approach.

More to the point, it’s not like losing this week would make a team less likely to lose later. We need them to lose whenever they can. Multiple times, preferably. The more the MWC and AAC teams beat up on one another, the better.

Why does anyone expect us to pickup more than a handful of points in today's poll? I hope I'm wrong, but 60 points would a surprise to me. And with there only loss to Ohio St., Cincinnati makes a good case for the top 25.

If we want a NY6 slot we know we have to run the table. Therefore 1-0 every week or that possibility is gone for this year. That is not unlike many teams chasing old AP national championship years ago. But that alone does not guarantee a slot as we are also dependent on other teams performances. It does help us when they lose so don’t say it does not help us. Also the way rankings work, the sooner you get ranked the higher you typically can go throughout season as you are in spotlight and typically the higher you end up at the end of the season.

Therefore it does matter to get in as early as possible and then we do have to take care of our business or it all falls apart.

Hey AppStFan1, as much as I appreciate your sudden surge in enthusiasm for this topic, those multiple posts of both entire top 25 polls are a killer to scroll through, esp. on mobile.

If everyone else loves them, nm and I’ll suck it up.

Because 4-5 teams within striking distance ahead of us lost, and while some teams behind us had nice wins, none of them were the sort that just force everyone to move them way up.

We won’t be the only team that gains ground and we may get jumped by a team or two, but I expect we’ll get a decent increase.

I'm more in the "it'll happen when it happens" camp, but the biggest reason getting in early matters is it forces voters who otherwise wouldn't pay attention to us (midwestern voters, west coast voters, and basically any voters who have ignored us so far) to put eyes on us. It's easy to gloss over the 4th place team in ORV but it's hard to ignore #25.

Perception is reality. When we cracked top 25 last year almost every one of our peers had a topic on their message board about us. I know that’s a weird barometer but it goes to show that people pay attention to it.

The number, while completely arbitrary, carries a ton of weight. It also puts a big target on our back haha.

I don't mind avoiding the target for a little while until it looks like our defense is catching up and we are hitting on all cylinders. It does carry a lot of weight but again like someone else said, it will happen when it happens. No reason to stress. We keep winning and it will happen.

Any G5 not named Boise St. or UCF can't sustain a loss and remain in the top 25, which is ridiculous. That said we have 49 voting points in the Coaches Poll. "28th"

No sudden interest. Just decided to show these so folks can see what it takes. Teams are moving past us because they have an impressive win.

The only exception is that the MWC and AAC clearly as a whole are getting much more respect from voters.

We just have to win. Everyone is focusing so much on this but all those teams will play each other and eliminate one another. All this worrying by some of our fans is pointless now because in about 4 weeks from now 90% of this stuff will have worked itself out. We have to go undefeated and really need to beat everyone outside of South Carolina by double digits or there is no reason to expect a big jump in points. We need new voters and the only way to get a lot of new voters is to win big. Those who have voted us already won't bump us up much more regardless of what we do. We are 20-21 in some ballots. We need everyone to have us in their 23-25 range at minimum and then a few in the 17-21 range and then we will safely be ranked.

Any AAC or MWC team who has just one loss come week 10 will be ranked. The only reason UCF was able to take a loss and still be ranked is that they were ranked so high. Boise State is now at that point and unless they take a blowout loss to a team who is not receiving votes they will need 2 losses to drop out.
