Mountain Dew is a Pepsi Co brand, but in Boone, it is distributed by Dr Pepper Bottling Company. DP Bottling Co is a small family ran bottler that has “grandfather” rights to distribution in the high country. It’s funny, because Mtn Dew is Pepsi’s bread and butter and they don’t even own the distribution rights to it in Boone.

The school did recently resign with Pepsi, but they have an addendum to include Dr Pepper Bottling Co so Mtn Dew and Dr Pepper can be included on campus and in the stadium. Given the amount of money Pepsi coughed up for the deal and the fact that they don’t distribute Mtn Dew to subsidize the cost, it’s got to be burning a nice hole in their pocket.

Look at a can. There is no period after Dr on the label. They don’t even use one when referring to it in text. Why? Aesthetics, I guess, but it’s not a part of their trademarks.
