Defense vs. Top 30 Running Backs

Unread post by WASU 93 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:13 am

Louisiana-Monroe will represent the 5th Straight Opponent that will rush a Top 30 Running Back against our Defense:

(Some of these rankings will change after today's games, since some schools played mid-week)

Josh Jackson of ULM is currently 5th in the Nation in Rushing with 106 Carries for 712 Yards (6.72 yards per carry) and 6 Rushing TD's.

Benny Lemay of Charlotte is currently 30th Nationally-- 75 Carries/478 yards/4 TD's. He rushed 14 times for 118 yards (8.43 YPC) and 2 TD's vs. App. St.

Javonte Williams of UNC is 26th Nationally-- 83 Carries/492 yards/3 TD's. He rushed 16 times for 94 yards (5.88 YPC) and Zero TD's vs. App. St.

CJ Marable of Coastal Carolina is 25th Nationally--92 Carries/493 Yards/5 TD's. He rushed 16 times for 95 yards (5.94 YPC) and 1 TD vs. App. St.

Trey Ragas is Louisiana is 14th Nationally 63 Carries/572 Yards (9.08 YPC)/6 TD's. He was held to 24 yards on 7 Carries (3.43 YPC) with no TD's. Elijah Mitchell 68 yards on 13 Carries and Raymond Calais-- 9 Carries for 47 Yards actually contributed more this week. However, we held their three backs to 29 Carries for 116 Yards (4.0 YPC). Mitchell is ranked 34th Nationally--80 Carries for 470 yards (5.88 YPC) and 9 TD's.

So, our defense is facing some of the top rushers and rushing teams. The results are improving and we're doing a good job of keeping their backs out of the end zone.

BTW-Darrynton Evans is #16--89 Carries/540 yards (6.07 YPC) and 9 TD's.

Looking ahead, Georgia Southern will be heavy on the run and South Alabama's Tre Minter is 31st in the Nation.

Are those stats for Darrynton inclusive of this past game? If so, surprising that his average is still so high when he was getting stuffed and keyed in on on Wednesday.

Yes, he had 22 carries for 69 yards, so his average per carry did drop.
