Our D has been awesome! The GaSo game was rough, but they played lights out tonight. The D is the reason we won this game. Period. Way to go Roof!

And yet we still held that team to a lower point total than any other SEC team (except Mizzo who held them to 14) has, including BAMA. I would say our DEFENSE was DOMINANT and won the game for us without question.

To a SEC team. And they had to be exhausted by that point.
Defense is the only reason we were in this game

Our defense was dominant. But, we would have been more dominant had we rushed 4, instead of 3 on those 4th downs. (Just like the final play, when we got enough pressure to force an overthrow on a wide open receiver—-“risk/reward”)
I love the win, but we had umpteen opportunities to close that one out with any number of stops, or picking up a first down or one more yard.

Our guys gave maximum effort, but they had to for every last second.

The coaches did a tremendous job of getting the team ready. The players outplayed our ultra-conservative coaching (and the garnet wearing officials) to get the W.

If you look back at 3rd or 4th and very long over the last several years, this is always what we have done. 3 men up front, the rest protecting the line to gain.
Them picking it up was a result of fatigue.
Maybe blitzing would have allowed someone to get deep downfield for a TD

Yep, D has definitely been good. Won it for us at USC and even played well enough to win vs GS. Strange turn of events we've seen where now it's the offense that seems...off.

Overall. Ted has put together great game plans over the last few weeks. He has found the pulse of what we have and put whatever ego issues and doubt he was having early on to the side. I've had the chance to have words with him and you could see the shift.

What needs to happen is he needs to address the play of Des Franklin. The biggest gaping hole in our defense over the course of the season has been his play at the safety position.

How about the fact that we went ultra conservative in the entire 4th quarter and seemed content to let the defense win the game? It worked but still. The Cocks worked from short fields for the entire quarter but we didn’t break. They had about 20 freaking yards rushing. Their QB isn’t bad and made some good throws. In hindsight it would have been better to bring some more pressure but I’m sure the coaches didn’t want to put a tired secondary in one one one situations. Whoever made that bad tackle attempt on their TD probably wishes he wrapped up the receiver instead of bumping him. My son and I were down in the App corner for the 4th quarter and it was insane. Great coaching and an awesome win. We beat the SEC team that beat Georgia folks. Let that settle in.

Great game by the defense! When the offense stalled in the fourth, we relied on them again and again and again! Seemed like we were so afraid of making an offensive mistake in App territory that we did not take many risks. I was afraid that the D was just going to get worn down, but they pulled it out and won the game for us!

I know we used the Picket line on 3rd/4th and long yesterday (and last year)-- However, if you rush 4, you still have 7 against a max of 5 receivers and a running QB. Someone could always get deep, but with a pass rush and 7 defenders, the odds are in your favor. Prevent defenses rarely work and we were 0 for 3 against 4th and long last year and rank #105 (out of 130) in 4th down defense in the nation allowing 10 of 16 conversions.
