Eh, he’s a cheerleader for his conference. I’d do the same but I find it a bit condescending. Especially since their best loss is a 49 pt drubbing.

I agree. BUT, if you really see yourself as a "Power 6" conference why not use this season to take a shot at the ACC? If Clemson wins out, a totally undeserving ACC team will go to the Orange Bowl. Isn't that worse than a one-loss Bosie or Appalachian State getting in the NY6 over a 2-loss AAC champ?

"A two-loss champion from our league ... they should be a lock," Aresco said. "If the CFP standard is to identify and rank the best teams -- and it is -- there's no question in my mind that our champion, whoever it turns out to be, will be the best team in the G5 and better than many P5 teams that are ranked ahead of them."
Slightly arrogant in my opinion. "A two-loss champion from our league...they should be a lock." And his only point about App State was that we lost at home to Ga. Southern. No mention of the SEC and ACC away game wins. Wow!

Yeah, he can suck it. I don't like Southern but they would compete in his little conference.

Re: This is worth a read
SMU has 1 P5 win against a 5-5 TCU, and was taken to the wire by a 3-7 dumpster fire ECU team, they are definitely deserving to be ranked behind us.
The GaSo loss is rough for us, but make any of those AAC teams play them in similar conditions that we did and I bet they see a similar outcome or worse because that conference certainly doesn't know what defense is.

"Aresco had multiple facts at his fingertips in a call with ESPN on Wednesday to illustrate the strength of the AAC,which is 14-1 this year against the other Group of 5 conferences (4-0 against the Sun Belt, 3-0 against the Mountain West, 6-0 vs. C-USA and 1-1 vs. MAC). The only loss was Temple's loss to Buffalo."appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2019 4:45 pmhttps://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ssion=true
While 14 and 1 against the G5 is nice, lets put some perspective on some of those wins. (didn't have time to do MWC & MAC)
-Going 4-0 against the SB, stAte is the only team above .500 and the total combined record of the 4 SB teams is 14-26.
-Going 6-0 against CUSA 5 different CUSA teams, with FAU & Marsha both being 7-3 but total combined record of the 5 teams is 24-26
I can agree with Aresco and argue that some of these G5 teams are better than their P5 counterparts ranked above them.

Just because we are in a weak conference, much like Clemson, does not mean we aren’t damn good. As I recall Clemson dominated Alabama, from a much stronger conference, last year. Who is to say we aren’t the Clemson of g5? Get over it man.

While I don’t appreciate the implied and stated slights against App, this guy is doing what he’s paid to do - further strengthen his conference. It would be nice to see the Belt home office do the same for us.
Give 'em hell!

Ha...you're on to something there. When the opposition starts complaining it must mean we're doing something right...we're making them sweat a bit it seems.

Poop on this whiny baby.....yeah I get he is a cheerleader for his conference but he doesn't have much to support his argument.
GaSouthern (can't believe I'm defending), by the way lost to the best team in the country right now in LSU and almost beat a late term undefeated Big10 team in Minnesota losing with 13 secs left by 3. The other GaS loss was to a very good conference foe Louisiana. Plus they beat a ranked team in us.
SMU has absolutely no defense.....we would drill their ass..... Memphis had one FCS team on their schedule. The P5 victories by top AAC teams were against very weak P5s......We beat 2 P5s with one being SCarolina who beat Georgia.
Boise State ain't exactly the Boise of old by any means. But the way it shakes out I will not be surprised if Boise gets the nod to pick cotton.

I'd love to see Keith Gill and/or Doug Gillin respond to this. Would be nothing but good things for App and the conference.

Re: This is worth a read
I'm not too bent out of shape because it's his job to promote his conference. If he is out there saying Boise State or App State should be higher than his conference's teams, he is in the wrong gig.
I'm probably different from a lot of people on this board because I actually agree that as of now, SMU should be ahead of App. Their TCU win is as good as any of App's and possibly better. But I'm also more down on Memphis current resume. I certainly don't think they have the best profile of any of the G5 as of today. Now if they win out with a road win against South Florida and possibly two straight wins against Cincy, that's probably all she wrote and the Tigers will likely be the G5 rep and deservedly so.

Georgia Southern is a rivalry game. We could be 10-0 and they could be 1-9 with an OT win over Tusculum and it would still be a toss up.

Re: This is worth a read
So, we know that he's aware of us now and with most of our offense returning (including getting Peoples back) with Drink having more time to tweak things the way he wants them. And the following year we lose Zac, but if DBG is as good as advertised....
Also, if Roof is able to replicate what he did this year on defense as we're losing more again on that side....we're probably going to be even stronger next year and the next.
So, Aresco might as well get used to us challenging his teams for the invite...or ask us to join his highly vaunted AAC.

Talks of records against other conferences...I don't remember any teams from AAC trying to get us on their schedule...that they are afraid to play us doesn't support his position that they are obviously better than us.

Maybe he should facilitate scheduling AAC teams against App State. Come on Gillin, let's get Memphis or Cincy or SMU on our future schedule.
