What leads you to believe that Charlotte can consistently sustain a draw of 40,000 when most of the rest of the league doesn't?ASU2012 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 6:41 amAnd they’re both expansion teams playing in an NFL stadium...

Re: MLS to Charlotte
I can see a day when the league get's big enough for two divisions. The top 16-20 play in a championship league and the other 16-20 play in the second division. Top 3-4 teams in second division replace bottom 3-4 teams in top division every year. Think the English leagues do this now. Think Raleigh, Charlotte or both could support a team. Will need a 20-30,000 seat stadium to make it work. 10 or so places right now want teams. With 24 teams now total could go to 36. Make two divisions easy.

Re: MLS to Charlotte
how about this:
Bring the team to CLT and let them play at the Bank for the first couple of seasons. Let Meck county lease the land where memorial stadium is for $1 year to Tepper and let him build a soccer stadium there with like 25 year rights or something similar.

@sbjsbd: In potential @MLS news: the @Panthers are expected to add @allyfinancial as a major sponsor in the team’s effort to land a soccer expansion club for the city. Would be among biggest MLS team sponsor deals

I currently live in Kansas City and Sporting KC games have an amazing atmosphere. The stadium only fits about 20,000 but thats what makes it so good. Soccer specific stadiums are a must. Go Sporting!

@NickCarboniWCNC: Ally Financial announces it reached multi-year agreement with Charlotte Soccer Bid Team (led by #Panthers owner David Tepper). It will have front of kit branding rights should Charlotte get an #MLS club. @sbjsbd reported earlier that it would be among biggest MLS sponsor deals.

Re: MLS to Charlotte
Maybe it's because I'm a huge fan of the EPL that only has 20 teams, but I feel like MLS is watering it down a bit for me, from a fan perspective. I know it's all about the money and spreading the game to as many cities as possible, but you look at the MLS table it becomes overwhelming.
I do love the MLS playoff format. I wish EPL would adopt a playoff for the top 4 teams (All would have already qualified for UEFA), with two legs for the first round then the championship in Wimbley.

I agree. I think you can expand too fast. But, I would guess by 2022 or 2023 the league will reach 30. I would assume at that point they would put on the brakes./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 10:31 amMaybe it's because I'm a huge fan of the EPL that only has 20 teams, but I feel like MLS is watering it down a bit for me, from a fan perspective. Re: MLS to Charlotte
Still would prefer a modern and intimate 25/30k seat soccer specific pitch in South End, Midtown, or elsewhere, otherwise, today is a great day to a be a soccer fan in the Carolina's.

Re: MLS to Charlotte
Finally. Not so sure voters will appropriate 100MM from the hotel/motel tax to upfit the stadium but would assume Tepper has a back-up plan.
This is a win for the CLT area any way you slice it. Yeah, MLS may not be the level of the euro stuff but watching is still good and another rivalry with ATL will be exciting but expect they will eat our lunch for a few years.

Re: MLS to Charlotte
Great news for Charlotte!
A 25-30k stadium near uptown would be perfect. I don’t see the Charlotte team replicating the stadium sized support we’ve seen in ATL at Mercedes-Benz.
Dallas has a really nice purpose built field but it’s all the way up in Frisco and it shows when you see their crowds. Hopefully Tepper doesn’t make the same mistake.
