Re: Doug Gillin?
Seems as though it could have been started last year even. Hey Shawn if you stay and Drink leaves we like you a lot. I have thought that might have happened.
I mean yeah we have no idea what kind of HC he will be but we didn’t with Drink either. I am willing to give him a chance to figure it out.

Re: Doug Gillin?
IMHO the play calling in last years bowl game covers the offense. Defense can be managed by trust unless the head coach has to step in. I’m not worried unless problems arise that aren’t managed. Then I’ll only worry until my head hits the pillow and I go to sleep.

He was co offensive coordinator under Satt for 3 years and seemed to call a good bowl game last year and how do your first two concerns not apply to Drink as well.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 3:50 pmI have no idea if he can put a staff together. It will take a couple of seasons to get that roster rounded out.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 3:28 pmI'm sorry, but I don't agree. The Yosef Club doesn't come close to covering scholarships and expenses. It is my understanding that the athletics department is under water. Our basketball team is a joke. Baseball? He's the athletics director not just the director of football operations. We have a lot of work to do. He has a lot of work to do. If he wants another job, God bless him. But App needs an AD who understands the whole picture. To me, that's why the AAC isn't interested in him or us.ericsaid wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 3:13 pmIf you are job hunting with another firm, and have an offer in hand while not being opposed to staying where you work, you'd be a fool not to listen to their counter offer.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2019 2:59 pm
You're really suggesting that someone who didn't get another job should get a raise for not getting another job? If that's the case, are you hiring?
It's entirely possible App worked out a package for Gillin that made it more attractive to stay in Boone rather than go to Cincinnati. Whomever they would choose over him would have to be pretty damn impressive.
You can't buy every bad coach out when they don't pan out. You have to ride it out until their buy out is manageable, which is what was done with Fox. Then you move on.
As for the Yosef Club, App does the least in terms of advertising and explaining the impact of a donation that I've seen.

He then sold him off to Mizzou knowing the guy couldn't recruit but could hold the place together for a year while the fan base got over the loss of Satt. Things are all going according to DG's grand plan.

Re: Doug Gillin?
I’d have to guess an OL coach would know a ton about defense, as the OL has to block them. Just because a guy has more experience on one side of the ball or at another position doesn’t mean he’s completely clueless about the others.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 3:50 pmI have no idea if he can put a staff together. Re: Doug Gillin?
Are you seriously knocking a guy that is ONE OF US? A guy who is a real Mountaineer and earned it with his hand in the dirt...and is now getting his chance to have his number called to lead our program to the next level? I dare say that, after his introductory presser, Coach Clark will have uttered "we, us, & our" more than Drinquit did this past season. And are you referring to DG as the "guy who couldn't get a better job"? The guy that is maybe the best Mountaineer AD of our generation?appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:49 pmLazy hire from a guy who couldn't get a better job. See ya'll in NOLA.

Re: Doug Gillin?
I'm not quite sure if we really need you in NOLA if you're just going to talk down about the men who are getting us there and (hopefully) leading us to victory. Clark, the guy who will be leading this team during the NOLA Bowl, is a lazy hire and the guy who hired him, DG, can't get a better job. If that doesn't reek of 'know it all,' then I don't know what does.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:49 pmLazy hire from a guy who couldn't get a better job. See ya'll in NOLA.
Feel free to sit this one out, especially since you likely already know who will win and by how much.

Re: Doug Gillin?
Your comment is a little lazy. DG is a beast behind the scenes. If you only knew how much lemonade he has made out of the lemons he was handed. plenty of programs want him, believe me.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:49 pmLazy hire from a guy who couldn't get a better job. See ya'll in NOLA.
Same with Clark, don’t discredit his credentials because he is here at App. He is here by choice. He has a nice resume and is well thought of in the regional coaching circle. He has had plenty of offers last year and even more this year. If he stays, it’s because he wants to be here. Just facts.

Thoroughly disgusting statement! Do you realize that the early signing day is Wed., Dec. 18th--only six days away?appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:49 pmLazy hire from a guy who couldn't get a better job. See ya'll in NOLA.

Re: Doug Gillin?
I like the history this HC has with us. It is a good hire for these times and longevity. Bench racing aside, many will always be negative. Would love to see Nate Woody come home from U of Mich for defensive side. Dream team!!!!appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:49 pmLazy hire from a guy who couldn't get a better job.
