The crowd cheers “App” “State”. I am good with that in the end zone

I emailed DG last year after the bowl game and requested we consider the Endzone from last year's New Orleans Bowl.

Good move...I loved that in New Orleans last year.
As long as the SBC champ goes to the New Orleans Bowl (or an NY6), they should just roll up this end zone and put it in storage beside the Saints end zones

When the track disappears, are there plans to bring seating closer to the playing field?
No, been discussed for years. The hill in the south end zone will be moved closer to the field but no seats.
I must have paid attention to it like the other repetitive threads.

Wow, that's almost like "we did we spend money get rid of the track"

Thought closer seats to the playing field would help create a better advantage. I know the slope of the current seating probably leaves very little option.
Per Doug in the latest black and gold podcast, with only 1 full sized playing surface we need to maximize the space we have. That's why the SEZ hill will be graded to about 15 yds off the back of the end zone.

By all that's Mountaineer and sacred, NO! Green turf, white lines/numbers, black endzones with Appalachian (I can live with App State) and Mountaineers. That yellow turf and the black particulate will look very bad, especially on TV.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I usually go down on the field after games every year and I just don't recognize any (or very little) difference in the turf from the time it was first put down. I haven't noticed players slipping or seen rips in the turf or even a fading of the color. I was just curious as to what makes it worn out and in need of replacement?
Having been on the sidelines from 1973-1978, 1981-1982, and field turf at my high school 2010-2018 the looks can be deceiving. The "blades" can rip, lay down, wear out, and it makes for some interesting cuts. One year in the mid-70's the blades would lay down in one direction. If we ran the toss sweep right headed to north endzone the backs would slip down but not if we ran is left headed north. The worn blades were leaning towards the east side: right TS was "with the grain" and left TS was "against the grain."
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Thanks for the response. I figured I wasn't seeing something. Oh yeh, I was on the sideline in 77 too. Not such a good year (2 wins), but at least one of the wins was over Marshal.

I’m not a fan of being rebranded as App State. I think it’s a cop out for people who can’t pronounce Appalachian. Now that we’re a nationally recognized university is the opportune time to give the country an English lesson.
The App State is a good short hand and was more intended to replace the "ASU" reference since we were joining a conference with Arkansas State who also used that reference (as does Arizona State, Alabama State, Alcorn State, etc.). I like it because it give us a unique identity that is usable in short format....which was the intent.
I understand your point. I just disagree with the logic. We are Appalachian State University. Period. I want to hear our name used correctly so many times in the media that regular fans know the pronunciation and start using it regularly. There’s a reason I chose the screen name that I use.

Meh. You have the right to your opinion...but many of us prefer App State. UCLA, Lousiana, TCU are just a few examples of teams who go by a preferred name. It has nothing to do with people knowing how to say our name. Appalachian State doesnt fit on a tv screen, and App State has gained us national notoriety.

I want it to say Appalachian State University, a constituent member of the University of North Carolina System. Home of the Mountaineers.

I would prefer the font be a sans serif font and given the amount of text I want at least 18 point but would settle for 12 point.

On each end the block "A" would look nice, though mixing serif and sans serif fonts is like mixing different liquors and not something I am fond of to be honest.

Lmao hilarious

The gold sidelines were supposed to have a script "Mountaineers" in it as Jerry wanted, but it just wasn't going to work.

Also in 2011, they got rid of the 23-inch crown (it's now two inches), which is why the construction took longer than normal.

Since we apparently have a big waiting list for club seats, I'd love to see these crappy looking black boxes gone, and nice club suites added along the entire top of the east stands.

I can definitely see the East stands being the next priority for the stadium. More club and box seats.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect the passion! For the record, I like the "App State" branding but the logic isn't mine. It's the logic that was published and discussed when the decision was made. I just happen to like it. The fact is that ESPN is not going to use the full "Appalachian State University" or even "Appalachian" on their scoreboard banners. The full name also isn't conducive to cheers. My main point is that the "App State" designation is intended to replace the "ASU" short form, NOT the use of "Appalachian." I would like for the media and announcers to use the full name more often as well, but I would rather hear "App State" than hear it mis-pronounced. That's just me.

What is a crown in this regard?

After the NEZ, track removal and Hill improvements are made, the question for the future then becomes do they redo the whole east side with new stands closer the the field that includes club seats up top? Or do they just try to add onto the existing stands with club seats up top? Is there enough space between the road and stands to add these at the moment? Obviously more expensive to completely redo but if they just add club to the top, that solidifies the east side stands as is for quite awhile do they not?
I know there was talk of expanding? the indoor practice facility once the softball field is built at the old Watauga site so it could be quite some time before anything is done on the east side.

I wish they had planned to move the field closer to the west stands when planning the NEZ to be able to move the east stands closer.

See how flat the angle of the lower stands are. I thInk that really creates a challenge in moving the stands closer to the field (without dropping the field level like they did at Duke. At least the two end zones margins are being brought closer to the field.

IMO, east and west stands will eventually need to be redone.
