This is about a new revenue stream for athletics, among other amenities...there'd be zero marketability for seats any lower than the current config.
Wouldn't they move the band back to that area? Problem solved I'd think.

Do we have a misspelling on the website..? "1,000 combined club and loge (lodge?) seats". Anyone know who to contact in Athletics?

Nope, not a misspelling.

The risers are pre-cast concrete, probably coming from Tindall Corp. in Spartanburg. They are probably waiting for the next sections to arrive by semi.

They meant "luge". Meaning you can luge down to the field to tear down the goal posts after beating UNC in Boone.

This was my thought as well. We had temporary bleachers all the way to the field level for 3-4 seasons prior to the NEZ construction. They were filled regularly with the band and students.

I hope the reason they're holding off on extending the stands to the field is that they are waiting until there are funds to re-build the lower east and west stands, making it all connect in a U shape.

Nope. Any demand we have for seating is for luxury boxes and club seats only. We need to triple season ticket holders before we ever think about adding more endzone single game or GA seating.

I disagree with your notion that we must add more season ticketholders before we even THINK about potential expansion.

Our administration absolutely MUST "think about" these things, because we only get one shot at each new stadium enhancement. If we aren't planning for the future in these projects (no matter how far out it might be), we're stupid.

Gillin has stated he wants to make KBS the best 30,000 SEAT stadium in the nation. If that is the stated long term goal, all enhancements must be made with that goal in mind. Including the potential for additional GA seating down the road.

I hear you and understand your opinion. I’m sure we will expand when and if there is a need.

FTR 2019 season with 7 home games. We had 1 home game where we got to 29k and we had 3 games with attendance less than 19k. Regardless of weather or day of the week, we need more than 28k attending all games before we add more numbered seating than we are already putting in.

We need to get more bodies up the Mountain on a regular basis before we need to invest in more seats. Next year, we'll sell out Homecoming. Most likely, that will be it for full capacity.

We brought in temporary end zone bleachers, when we had Miami and Wake in the same year. That's always a possibility in future years.

I'm more interested to see how the new hill works. If there's more pavilion area up top, where the casual fan can drink a beer and see the action, that will probably be sufficient for our current crowds.

I saw enough empty seats each game during a 13-1 season to let me know we don’t need to expand seating. Regrade the hill, add the club seats, that’s will provide enough supply for the current demand. And no I’m not a fan for expanding for every other year when we host a Miami, Wake, ECU, NC program.

Understand the need to fill aluminum space for optics, but how much does it cost to expand seating to 30k? We have Marsha, UNCs- Chapel Hill and Concord, EZU and Cocky coming to town over the next few years. Getting an overflow crowd of 40k for those games is a gross of $2 mil per. FTR, I am using the Wake and Miami crowds in our current configuration to guesstimate the crowd.

It costs nothing to sell standing room only or GA tickets for those games. You could still bring in temporary bleaches for the few games where demand will exceed capacity. Maybe on those years when these teams come play us at the Rock more people will buy season tickets. When a season ticket holder can sell their ticket for at least face value for all games then we can think about expanding again. We were a top 20 team and no one had trouble getting a ticket to any of our home gams.

You are getting to $2M by applying the entire 40k x $50/ticket. That's not how it works. Only the incremental capacity should be used, so that's only $500k for the additional 10k in tickets sold. Adding 10k seats to get an additional $500k every other year isn't creating return on spend.

I'd rather charge an additional $20-30 per ticket for those games (non-season ticket holders) increasing revenue and provide an incentive to purchase season tickets.

Fair point and yes, I was using the whole attendance versus incremental. The reason being was to ask what it would cost to expand to 30k in actual seats. We have what, 24k now. We are adding how many to the EZ? 1k? So how much would it cost to add roughly 5k seats while keeping GA on the hill? Wake an Miami netted us around 9k over true seats in capacity. So can we add roughly 5k in seats and still keep the 9k in GA for the big games?

Just kinda crazy to me that with the well known financial shortcomings we have that there are some who think we should add seats when, like Saint said, there was PLENTY of empty aluminum to be seen in what was a 13-1 season. That money would be better spent taking out bleachers and putting in chair backs. And count me among those that think it’s pretty wasteful to embark on a many multi-million dollar project just for one game a year.

Go check out the Murphy Center at ECU. Someone please correct me if i have this wrong but my understanding is the NEZ will have glass paneling on the ground level pretty similar to the Murphy Center. I don’t think you’re going to see seats on the ground level, would make that part of the project pretty pointless.

Exactly. Who on earth will want to sit at ground level (or even 10' higher) at the back of the end zone for really expensive seats when you can sit in the east or west and have a much better view of the game? I would think that those end zone seats won't go any lower. As far as expansion goes look at other G5's when they play on television. Even the really good programs have lots of empty seats, especially the ones with 35-40K and more seat stadiums. I have said it before, when you play conference games against teams from 100's of miles away they just don't travel and that puts the burden of filling the extra seats on App folks. If our opponents brought 1-2K in fans it would make a huge difference.

It was a simple question of cost. Besides, DG has spoken of a desire to get to 30k in seating. Is that next year, 5 years, 10 years? Who knows. I’m not discounting the financial struggles. Just asking because we do have a short term need for it, albeit a few one offs. Anyways, who knows what will happen if the next round of expansion/realignment creates a need. I am glad that we have an AD with a vision to the future.

If we were to move conferences increasing demand and tv revenues. We'd have the funds to expand seating.

Sometimes it feels like we want to add seats to claim we seat 30k. This is like wanting a 6 bedroom, 5,000 sq. ft. home when all we really need is the 4 bedroom, 3,000 sq. ft. house for our family of four.

I would LOVE to 1) have the demand for a 35k seat stadium and 2) the means to pay for it. This we can all agree on.
