I like the AAC bowl competition, better than the Sun Belt. Wish we could move for football, but that's been discussed.

Looking at the AAC rankings holistically, voters/pollsters will probably think like this:

Memphis gave it a pretty good go against PSU, so drop them 2-3 spots to around 17
Cincy got rolled a couple times by Memphis, but had a good bowl game, so we can't put them above Memphis. So put them at 18
Navy had a great year, and won their bowl game, but didn't win their conference. So put them around 20-21.
App State??? They play in the Sun Belt, and even if they were 20 before, we can't put them anywhere else, so slot them in around 22-23

I'm fully expecting this, because we're so far out of mind.
This is exactly what I'm thinking.
Ditto.

For any of you - not sure if I'm reading too literally, but if we only pass Boise and we're jumped by Navy AND Cincy (which seems like a worst-case scenario to me), that would leave us at 21. If you think we wind up 22-23, who else do you see jumping us? Air Force? Texas?

I think it would be incredibly disrespectful to our program as a whole if we are put behind any 3-loss G5 team, but I have a feeling it could happen.
You can bank it.

Texas for sure. Pollsters love the longhorns.

There is no way we DROP. Staying at 20 is the worst case.

It’s not impossible, but I think folks are maybe getting a tad fatalistic with some of these predictions.

It's our privilege. In fact, what anyone thinks here has no bearing on the final poll. Does having our game early help or hurt? Will the margin of victory matter? I don't think one can definitively say how those factor into the rankings. Ultimately, it would seem to come down to how we are evaluated in comparison to Navy and Cincy. They have the advantage of playing later and defeating P5 teams. Will those trump our 13-1 season? We likely jump Boise but I'm not sure who else we pass.

So, it seems to me we could land anywhere between 19-21. I was hopeful prior to the bowl season that with a win we could move closer to 15-16 but things didn't seem to pan out for that to happen. Nonetheless, we'll be ranked and thats pretty impressive especially when we came so close last year.

No sign of us from ESPN...

https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... emson-land

Only mention on #14 Wisconsin:
"The Badgers will play two difficult nonconference games against Appalachian State and Notre Dame (at Lambeau Field), but they avoid Ohio State and Penn State during the regular season."

Voters love Boise, Memphis has the coaching staff changes and losing a lot, and Cincy returns most of their top players. Boise has earned that respect through years of being good and they probably could be better next year. I thought Louisville might be in there.

Tennessee, UNC, Louisville, and Iowa State should all be improved.

Washington is in the USA Today Top 25 but they lose Eason: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/n ... 420836002/

I was hoping we would be 23-25 but no shock. We have to earn the respect and voters won't put 5-7 G5 teams in the preseason top 25 like they will in the postseason one.

CBSSPORTS.com early 25 doesn't list us but puts the tarholes 25th. Beat Morgan State, 1-0.

McMurphy from The Stadium has one G5 in his way too early top 25, UCF at 19. But he does have VT, UNC, OK St, Ole Miss in his top 25. It's pretty standard, the media outlets push for the P5 "names" in their early rankings with no real regard to talent or recent production. This especially true for teams ranked 11-25, it's the world we live in.

With Newman and the top WRs gone I fear Wake Forest may not be in the top 40 or so. We may be back to where we were this year. We need to hope somehow Wake Forest wins 9-10 games and Wisconsin loses no more than 3 with us being one of the losses for each team or else we are probably going to be the odd man out if we are undefeated and AAC Champ has 1 loss to a top 10 team.

It is much safer to go with those schools. Ole Miss is interesting because of that QB. UCF is losing some players early to the NFL but I bet many voters will have UCF. They have a name and they should have a pretty good squad.

Let's be honest the only reason McMurphy put Ole Miss there is because of KIFFIN. You use the word safe but I think it's more laziness and apathy to the G5. If you do your due diligence on who is coming back you'd have to like the squad Boise has, Us, and UCF. Memphis is a bit of a question breaking in a new QB but they have some legit big time playmakers that make them very dangerous.

Brady White is actually coming back to Memphis for his final year of eligibility. If he wasn't, then for sure Memphis likely isn't getting much fanfare since that would mean both the QB and head coach would be breaking in.

Well look at that! I had misread about his eligibility. Thanks for straightening that out for me.

Kiffin makes Ole Miss interesting but I would say it is the combo of Kiffin and that QB they have. I don't think he is lazy on the G5 because he constantly had G5 teams in his ballot. I just rather put a P5 team coming off a 7-5 season with a bowl win in the top 25 over the 2nd MWC or 4th AAC team who had 4 losses. Memphis has the question marks but I'm sure many voters will have them. The AP had 17 teams in the preseason top 25 who finished in the final top 25. They do a great job with the top 10 teams but from 15-25 range it is about 50/50 at best whether they will be close or not.

Boise has a pretty good team but they are losing their best players early to the NFL Draft. They have a DE Curtis Weaver who will be a 1st or 2nd round pick and he declared early along with their OT Cleveland who is a baller. I believe they should receive votes but I have a hard time giving them benefit of the doubt this year when you lose your best WR, top 2 players overall, and are coming off a lopsided loss to Washington in the bowl game.
