I've looked and havent seen where this was discussed (could be wrong) but does anyone know why we didnt promote Gas to DC? I thought thats what we were grooming him for.

Additionally, all I've been hearing for weeks was how I was "going to be surprised" at the caliber of coaches that were knocking down Clark's door to come here. Is that going to materialize? Obviously hoping for Jones to succeed but doesn't feel like a homerun hire to me. Losing Riley is going to hurt too.

You know sometimes it's opportunity to have a second chance at a past failure that can really drive you and motivate you to succeed. Not just in football but in all things. No idea if Dale will be better this time but I am hoping for the best.
Great post! I'm optimistic about Jones. One thing for sure, the man loves App!
Look no further than the current national champion coach. Coach O was all but written off after he failed at Ole Miss; now look at him.

Now if we could only get a few of our nfl players to come back and openly hand out $$$ to players with impunity...

I'll echo many other sentiments shared in this thread - let's find the best person for the job, who wants to come to Boone, regardless of their alma mater. Just because someone went to App doesn't mean they're going to the the right fit, or at the right time.
What you say is true in a perfect world sense but as we have seen we had several one and dones. I agree that it is not of significant important as to whether they played for APP or not. Right at this point in time I think it is more important to have some continuity. Next season we will have a very experienced team but after that who knows - to maintain the stability of recruiting the right guys for the right positions is imperative to our situation. That, I believe, has been extremely important in our success over the last several years. We have had players graduate who had a unique skill set - example - Devan Stringer being replaced by Gaither-Davis - and there are others similar to this one. I'm not sure that without continuity in coaches, philosophy, etc., that this kind of example would exist
I'm not even really referencing one and dones (though I see where you get that from my post). When I say they want to be here at App, I mean want to be here for next season. If they love it and stay longer, great. If not, go forth, no skin of my back.
Give 'em hell!

I’m not impressed so far with how long it’s taken to gather the staff and the quality of where it’s going. I also heard Coach Gas was the man. Time will tell I guess. Just expected more .

I fear our most recent success may lead to future failure. I don't know that we have ever seen an exodus to this extent. We may see the drop off some were speculating on this past season. I hope I am wrong. Let's hope all the pieces fall together like they should. Coach has a lot of spots to fill.

Clark needs to figure this staff thing out. It’s almost February and we have only 4 coaches.

For God's sake let the man put his staff together and let's see what happens. The whining and hand wringing is so over the top.

PREACH! My man literally said during his introduction that he is not going to rush this, and that he wants guys that are committed to being here for a while. We just signed the best class in App history and a good portion are already on campus, the only reason I could see the need to rush would be to have spring practice earlier this year. I too would love an earlier spring practice but Shawn is not building a staff for this year be is building a staff for the next ERA of MOUNTAINEER FOOTBALL! Until I am given a reason not to I'm just going to trust the HMIC to put us in the best position to succeed, now and in the future!

So as of right now who are the coaches on the staff and what do they coach (other than head coach Clark)? Asking for a friend.

Nolan Jones -- Asst AD for Football Operations
Brad Bielaniec -- Director of Athletic Performance
Marcus Jones -- Asst Director of Athletic Performance

Shawn Clark -- HC
Dale Jones -- DC and maybe position?
James Rowe -- Defensive Assistant likely DB's
Justin Watts -- Offensive Assistant (likely TE's) and Probably Recruiting Coordinator

Rumored that Pat Washington will also be retained. He Coached WR's last year.

That's it.

I'd look toward Searels as RGC/AHC title.

Washington now confirmed back. Believe your projections for Watts are more like definites. Also assume Jones coaching LBs will happen.

Correct for Washington, huge retainee

App State Football Facebook:

"Glad to have Coach Pat Washington back for more in 2020 after he helped the 18th-ranked Mountaineers win 13 games, a Sun Belt title and the New Orleans Bowl. #GoApp"

Pat Washington retained (as expected)
