App/CLT part 3

Unread post by NWA49 » Thu Jul 30, 2020 7:51 pm

Thought y’all might find this interesting. I could see this game being played in Boone based on fewer cases there, but Boone has had some crazy restrictions on visitors. Yalls thoughts?

Just for info Mike Hill has a vacation home in blowing rock so I’m sure he is on really good terms with folks up there.

Also had some woodlands today always good stuff!

Go Niners!

I don't have any thoughts on this other than I'd like to see it happen, and that I'm now craving some corn nuggets.

You guys must be pretty surprised that the SEC didn’t give you the Notre Dame deal, what with being on the cusp of joining and all.

Woodlands is pretty solid. I think itll probably work out for a game if the season happens

You think any program scrambling to put together a schedule a month before the season starts has room to be picky? Of course I'd love to see our chances against an ACC opponent, but if a game against UNCC would help complete the schedule I'm all for it.

Not sure P5s will be paying much when they can barely let any fans in. (I know they’re still talking about 50% capacity but...)

If there are no fans allowed will teams prefer away games to possibly save money on facility costs?

What are the restrictions? Is it the 14 day quarantine thing? I thought that got struck down by a judge?

Yeah I didn’t know what the status of the quarantine was up there. If a judge removed that then good!

How supportive do y’all think Boone will be if crowds are permitted? Even at reduced capacity.

I would think the fact that KBS is twice the size of JRS and allows for more socially distanced patrons holds more sway than Watauga/Mecklenburg covid rates.

I can’t imagine UNCC hosting any newly scheduled game for this reason. Isn’t it the smallest stadium in the entire FBS? I know there’s usually plenty of room between people in your stadium, but you’re going to need some space if you play App or ECU since each program has fans.

We should schedule UNCC as often as possible, Covid or not. It’s good for North Carolina and the G5. I’m often torn about it because their fan base, small as it may be, is so out of touch, entitled and I feel like associating with App validates their otherwise bottom-tier program, but it’s just good business. Right down the street. Helps engage with our largest alumni group. No brainer. Doug should book it unless we can play a P5 that week and there aren’t any more date options.

I’d honestly be shocked if this game isn’t scheduled. We both lost Labor Day weekend games, so there’s an opening there. If Wake doesn’t pick us as their OOC game in week 2, we will both be open in week 2. If Duke doesn’t pick CLT as their OOC game in week 3, we will both be open week 3 as well. So feels like it makes too much sense, and there are opportunities to make it work.

Just play at Bank of America Stadium @ 50% capacity of 75,412. Would accommodate all who want to attend. Split the gate 60-40 App State due to average attendance and further travel distance.

I thought about BOA as well but I am guessing the Panthers aren’t going to be interested in letting anyone besides their PSL holders in during the season. Not sure what their sanitation protocols are during this, but adding college teams to it probably isn’t high on their list.

Im not convinced fans will actually be able to even attended so stadium size isn’t even come into my calculations.

If App and Charlotte weren't having these discussions, then neither AD would be doing their jobs. I have to believe that DG is talking with every FBS program in the state/area in the hopes we will get to play a full schedule. I would like to see this one happen. Charlotte played us well enough last year to expose our issues on D. Without that game, and the adjustments made from it, App would very likely have fallen short of the season we achieved. There is still a gap between App and Charlotte but I think some folks want to dismiss them because of message board BS. Given a choice, I would certainly rather see us playing another in-state P5, or even ECU, but this game makes sense.

IF fans are allowed to attend at all, I would be surprised if we are looking at 50% capacity. I'm not sure what the average size group (allowed to sit together) but picturing a model which allows 6 feet between groups is hard to imagine.
