Coaches Poll 9.27

Unread post by hapapp » Sun Sep 27, 2020 1:12 pm

We no longer are receiving votes in the Coaches Poll. After losing to Marshall we did, we beat Campbell and no longer get any votes. UL is no longer ranked in the Coaches Poll.

I would not rank us now either. We have some improvements to make before we are top 25 again. Let’s start by taking care of business with ULL

We did not even get one vote in either AP or Coaches' Poll. I think that is a bit harsh. I know we are not going to be ranked right now but still....

Well, win and move up.

They added the other P5 conferences that opted out early on in the rankings so it knocked everyone back. If they were not playing we would have received votes & Louisiana would be ranked

We don’t deserve a single vote. Cmon now. We struggled to beat a garbage UNCC team at home and were up 13-7 on FCS Campbell at the half.

Until we beat somebody with a pulse we have no business being mentioned near the top 25.

Louisiana gets bumped yet LSU is in the top 20 despite losing to Mississippi State. What a crock.

Marshall (2-0) dropped out of the rankings from #25 last week. Louisiana dropped out from #19 after beating GS with several players out. Welcome to the crazy season.

One of the SB teams could have at least tossed us a point. We may be 26 on everyone's ballot on both polls and would not get a point from anyone, but to not get a single point in a way puts us below 42 or so in the nation if we rank below those those "receiving points" I don't think we are that bad either.

We took care of Campbel by the end of the game and played DB as WRs and LB as RBs. Those facts should be worth something.

I don't think we are Top 25 either but to go from being Top 25 and winning to not receiving any votes seems to be too big of a drop. Winning should not guarantee you hold your spot but we won and won comfortably enough to play the clean-up members of the team. That is a big enough of a win to not need to worry about the final spread.

And Marshall is undefeated with a quality win over a ranked team that is a perennial Top-25 team. For them to be out of the Top 25 is also a crock.

We’ve both watched this team play 12 quarters of football in 2020. And I’d suspect we both agree we’ve been happy with only 2 of them. And those two were against a Bug South team. The only reason we were ranked after UNCC was because of the equity of last season and the lack of the BIG10 or PAC12 in the rankings.

We lost nearly all of that equity in Huntington and the BIG10 is back. Louisiana is not even ranked and theyre 3-0 with a P5 win. Coastal is 2-0 with a P5 win and arguably a stronger performance over Campbell, not ranked. La Tech 2-0 not ranked. Marshall 2-0 not ranked.

I’ll be our loudest advocate to be ranked when I think it’s warranted but I’ve seen nothing so far that suggests we are the 35th best team in America let alone the 25th.

If we hammer Louisiana I think you’ll have a stronger argument.

The Coaches Poll did not add in the Pac-12, like the AP did, so expect teams to win and still drop in that one next week as well if they indeed add the Pac-12.

It is simple match that they had to drop out. Once the Big Ten was eligible then it is not fair to keep those 4-6 teams people had ranked in preseason way lower than they were.

Marshall is still getting votes so it shows their win over us has some respect but they really don't deserve any points. Their whole reason was a win against us and that is proving to not be very good so far.

We don't deserve a single vote unless we beat Louisiana and Georgia Southern by double digits.

Actually, that sounds about right because LSU only lost by 10 to an SEC team that many expect to be improved under their new coach. They had talent last year but the program was not run well. It should be easy to win when you are in the middle of the MS, LA, AL, FL, TX, GA recruiting footprint. I don't think you completely kill them and drop them out.

I expected LSU to lose 3 or 4 games this year. Most people who don't vote thought the voters were way too high on them to begin with. I was shocked when they were top 10 instead of around 15-18 range.

No one said we should be ranked but we went from 12 points in others receiving votes to none, while winning. Coastal remains in the others receiving votes without playing. I'm just saying it points out the absurdity of the whole system.

We beat Campbell. No one in the AP cares at all that we beat an FCS team. Nor should they.

That is pretty much my point.

Hopefully Shawn can use this to motivate the team, though I don't think motivation has been lacking. I am not sure what has been off, but I would never suggest the coaches nor players are not motivated.

Simple P-5 bias. AND it’s like trying to get legislation thru Congress if you are the minority party.

The entire season is jacked up. Schools are playing games in empty stadiums. Teams are playing without gobs of players. Teams like App decide to play despite learning at the last minute that almost the entire receiver and running back Corp can’t go. Entire conferences pulled the plug and now want back in. Entire conferences will play 7 or 8 games-MAYBE! Schools have waited a month to start their season. It’s jacked up and some folks here are really concerned about bogus rankings in what amounts to a throw away season. Everyone will recruit and sign kids, most of which may or may not have played senior seasons. Those of us living in reality must surely believe that it will be a miracle to finish the football season. Personally I just hope we can keep playing and our players and coaches remain healthy.
