Cost to play this season
Assuming that there are no fans allowed for basketball this season should App even play? Will we have any revenue for hoops?

Re: Cost to play this season
I would be surprised if the paltry number of fans that we get for a game makes any significant revenue for the program. That being said, yes I think we should play. We have been playing other non revenue sports so why should we exclude a revenue sport that isn't making revenue? If we can play, we should play.

I would assume some of our games get streamed on ESPN +. The TN, Aurburn, CLT OCC games should have a good shot of being on there. I would think some sort of revenue would come out of the streaming services if more were to end up on Mousekateer Sports network.

We don't make money on ticket sales we make money from the NCAA tournament through the conference. We should play the season without fans or only families of players and students.

When I saw the title to this post, I thought it was referring to a player named Cost that had been cleared to play......Senior Moment.

That would be a poor name for a kicker. The worst since that Blewit guy at Pitt a few years back.appstate77 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 6:01 pmWhen I saw the title to this post, I thought it was referring to a player named Cost that had been cleared to play......Senior Moment.

That’s funny. I should have considered my audience before I finished typing- lol. Had a guy from my HS way back who played at Duke- Robert Brickey. He did ok despite the name.appstate77 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 6:01 pmWhen I saw the title to this post, I thought it was referring to a player named Cost that had been cleared to play......Senior Moment.

Re: Cost to play this season
This was always going to be a brutal season from a revenue standpoint, but hopefully next season brings fans back. Maybe a Sunbelt team will make a deep run and get those bigger conference payouts (we can dream lol).
If we lose another March Madness the whole damn thing might be toast if the P5 get their way.

Re: Cost to play this season
I suspect the *real* 2020 March Madness will be about the societal scramble to get a place in the thousands of lines for a Covid-19 vaccination. The sooner the vaccinations can be rolled out, the better the chances for some sort of NCAA basketball championship. I see no way for the the 68 team tourney with fans and $$$,$$$,$$$ in revenue. No way.agentpaul001 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 12:41 pmThis was always going to be a brutal season from a revenue standpoint, but hopefully next season brings fans back. As of this week, the NCAA seems committed to the return of March Madness in '21. The NCAA's Vice President of Basketball, Dan Gavitt, said on Wednesday that fans should prepare for a "special" event after this year's cancellation. "We are going to have a tournament," he said. I hope he doesn't have to eat his words.
There has been a positive development today. Moderna announced this morning that data from its clinical vaccine trials are expected to be available before the end of this month. If both Pfizer and Moderna could get vaccines with 90% efficacy and FDA clearance by the end of this year, January, February and March could get *wild* in a good way! But it's still 2020...

I doubt we are missing tons of ticket revenue this year compared to years past... I do imagine this was primed to be a really good season ticket year following last years success

Re: Cost to play this season
Someone commented earlier that ticket revenue isn’t a factor. How can that possibly be true. Even 500 tickets sold per game at $10?- I have no idea of the numbers to use but anything is certainly better than zero. We still have to fly to Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas and that has to be pricey. Add in food and lodging and subtract any real revenue. It will be an absolute miracle to play any hoops this year. Is it worth it for mid majors?HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 5:05 pmI doubt we are missing tons of ticket revenue this year compared to years past... Re: Cost to play this season
the whole point of this years schedule setup is so we don’t play west div. teams and two games per trip? so travel costs are kept to a minimum...bigdaddyg wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 7:29 pmSomeone commented earlier that ticket revenue isn’t a factor. If I remember correctly, Our basketball programs lose about 1 million to 1.5 million per year.

Re: Cost to play this season
A cost containment approach is what makes sense. If we didn't play at all, a good chunk of the cost would not go away (salaries, scholarships, facilities, etc.). Nobody is excited about the schedule this year, but it makes sense if you think about it.
