We are now 8-9 versus D1 competition. We have a tough week facing us as we head to Georgia for three.

4 losses in a row, a once very exciting season is slipping away. Run some offense and stop giving up 12 footers for crazy 3's. 480 attempts already this year . . .
Yeah it's been a disastrous four game stretch.

The number of 3s is because that is the style Kerns coaches. He was the same way at Presbyterian. He knows the way a mid major is going to make any kind of noise is with 3's. Problem is outside of Almonacy and Forrest, we don't have a consistent three point shooter. Losing K Lew was also a huge loss for the team. We don't have that mid range guy any more so teams can and do force the three. They don't have to worry about the middle.

That is on Kerns to figure out a different game plan since the current one is not working. We did see some different sets against South Alabama we hadn't seen all year. That said, we lost two games to the first place teams by a total of 4 points. The culture is there. The talent is there. The depth is not there -- yet. It is coming. Two years ago we would have been ecstatic about being 12-9 and middle of the pack in conference (with an extended stay in first).

I don’t mean this so sound argumentative but having a “style” that centers around jacking three after three with a team who has proven can’t make them at a reasonable percentage makes no sense. It is a no-brainer to shoot volume 3’s if you can make 40% but when you consistently go 6-25 maybe it’s time to work some offense, set some screens and work for some 15 footers or maybe the occasional back door cut. I don’t claim to know nearly enough to be a coach but it’s not rocket science. I love the defensive efforts and steals and forced bad passes can convert into layups. We really miss a bigger post game but man it’s hard to watch brick after brick especially in games where we have often fought back within a bucket or two and just let momentum dissolve with a three fest.

Kendall Lewis was a huge loss. No one else on the team would have had a larger impact , no where close in my opinion, had they hmmmm left the team. But that’s history. As to the three point shot , if it’s there fine but the off balance fade aways ....forcing it up , that’s just poor decision making and poor decision making has cost us first place , probably second and a bye in the tournament.Regardless , we were a bucket short both games and had plenty of chances , couldn’t get it done. Outplayed and out coached they closed em out.

It’s bothersome that Kerns first signee Kendall Lewis left the team, and it’s concerning that Parker isn’t what everyone thought he would be so far, and lastly where is the future development of any bench play, especially the guard position.

Kerns as a coach isn’t bothersome. The improvement on defense, toughness, and effort is evident.

We show a rusty shooting team this weekend against one of if not the best team in the conference.

30 total wins in 2 seasons to date, 7 of the 30 are against Bible colleges. Kerns is definitely good at scheduling 🤨 - we can get into hard facts at later date. Big week ahead.

Scheduling was a little different this year for some reason, what was that?

Why wait, would love to hear more of the "hard facts"?

The previous coaching regime didn't have much over 30 wins in their last 3 seasons. Kerns and staff are good. The body language alone from coaches and players is much improved. The covid anomaly probably set us back on progress a bit due to the conference scheduling, game cancellations, etc. Also, I'm not convinced that K. Lewis leaving has caused anymore losses than we would have had otherwise. Gregory does a lot of what Lewis was good at even better, but doesn't have as much length. If we can get more production out of our bench, I think we see better results. Every player that does not start is new to the program this season.

I think Kerns and staff have done a good job in their two years here. But, in fairness, we are sub .500 against D1 competition this season. Of course, two of those losses were on the road to SEC foes. Next year is the critical year in terms how successful his tenure will have been. I'm not suggesting we have to win the conference or get a NCAA bid but we have to continue to show improvement. I'm not convinced we are any more talented than past teams but we do seem better prepared and certainly have stepped it up on the defensive side of the ball.

My concern for next season is that with us losing Forrest & Almonacy, where will the scoring come from? Delph? The defensive focus will definitely be on him next year. I haven't seen anything that makes me feel like the young guys can replace that scoring next year.

Delph is a junior.

You caught it while I was changing it. I meant Almonacy

We only would lose Forrest and Almonacy. Both have the option of returning.

I think most fans didn't know that in basketball, as in football, seniors have the option to return

although Forrest has led in scoring the last couple of games, our current top 2 scorers are Gregory and Delph. James Lewis isn't far behind. All 3 return next season. Gregory does a ton of work that doesn't show in stat sheets and J. Lewis has the potential to be a constant double-double threat. Outside of those 3, hopefully Eads and Huntley become consistent threats once they become accustomed to the college game, as well as a few newcomers. Incoming freshman Chris Mantis looks to have potential to get buckets. I'm also wondering if we will replace K. Lewis' production with a potential transfer.

Team really needs a win today to get back on decent footing. #2 still not out of reach, but realistically team would need a win today, win both games this weekend, and Coastal would have to drop a game to Troy.

Rough game so far. Having Gregory out really hurts. Missing both the scoring and defense.

Forrest is drawing a ton of attention inside when he drives but we can’t seem to convert off it. James Lewis having another good game.

We really need some offense from someone other the Forrest. The Georgia St defense is really driving their fast breaks too so I think if the team can start converting on some of these possessions they can get back in it but it’ll be tough.
