MBB vs Vermont, 11/24

Unread post by APPdiesel » Tue Nov 23, 2021 3:34 pm

Gulf Coast Showcase website hasn't updated with Monday night's results.

We're in the 5th place game 1:30 slot vs the 4-2 Vermont Catamounts. When they win they've been winning by 10-15 points. When they lose it's close. Going to be a battle.

An interesting little nugget of info is that one of their starting guards, Kameron Gibson, is a twice baked catamount…spent the previous 3 seasons at wcu. He was their starting point guard his first 2 years before an injury kept him out last season. He’s one of many from wcu who hit the transfer portal when the coaching change occurred.

Vermont finished the half on a 16-3 run. Why is it when we are up double figures, I have this sense that somehow we will hit one of our patented cold streaks and let the opposition back in the game. Hopefully, we find the shooting touch in the second half that we had for most of the first half.

Held Vermont to 36% shooting and 15% from 3 and still down 2 at the half

The "mental game" is not where it needs to be.

Vermont is a really solid program. They’ve won a minimum of 20 games all 10 years of their current coach’s tenure, with quite a few 24-26 win seasons along with 1st or 2nd place in the conference annually. Hopefully these tough early season games will pay dividends down the stretch in conference play. I was, however, optimistic about seeing a better start than we’ve seen this year, especially after returning everyone from last year’s tourney team. Maybe we’ll have more success in March when it really matters, much like last season.
