10-3 nets a trip to Boca FL

It could be a lot worse. We are getting to play in FL against the #2 team in the CUSA. It is listed as the FAU field https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAU_Stadium
If you are going to have two weeks to book your hotels and flights. Its one of the first bowl games. It has a slightly higher payout than the New Orleans bowl.
Also LL got Marshall. So we are actually getting the better bowl in the end. What a crazy thing bowls are.

Had we won last Saturday would we have had a different option? Seems unlikelyappdaze wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 11:26 pmhttps://roofclaimbocaratonbowl.com/

Watched some of the CUSA championship game Friday night, really good team with a high powered offense. App should be able to score, question is can our D hold down their offense just enough. I see this as a toss up...should be fun one to watch.

Should be a good game. I believe our Defense will make enough stops and our offense will be able to put up points for sure. I think we'll be fine and come away with a win. Would hate to see us end the season with back2back losses...we seem to bounce back when we lose so hopefully it works out

The article states App has never played Western Kentucky. I believe that is false.appdaze wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 11:26 pmhttps://roofclaimbocaratonbowl.com/

It states they've never played as FBS teams... which is 100% true.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 8:13 pmThe article states App has never played Western Kentucky. I believe that is false.appdaze wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 11:26 pmhttps://roofclaimbocaratonbowl.com/

That would be true at the FBS level. FCS level we did play as I drove up for a playoff game one year. Believe it was a playoff game. Joey Hoover was RB and it was cold as ice.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 9:55 pmIt states they've never played as FBS teams... which is 100% true.NewApp wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 8:13 pmThe article states App has never played Western Kentucky. 1984, Bowling Green, 17-16, W;
1973, Boone, 7-42, L; and,
1972, Bowling Green, 7-6, W.

Re: 10-3 nets a trip to Boca FL
I've been watching some high lights from their season. I think you are right. If we come out lethargic and struggle to score in the first half, they will put it on us. The QB can throw it all over the field and he utilizes all options. He crushes zone defenses and they look for mismatches. Their receivers are rangy and quick.
In the Marshall game, Marshall got up early and then Marshalls QB got put out in the second quarter. After that WKU steamrolled them.
Going to be interesting to watch our defense against their offense.

We went 4 and 3 against teams with winning records.Best win was probably ECU in retrospect , maybe CCU. Our O line will have to show up in order for us to win.

Defense will have to be in their QB's face all night. When he has time he is accurate and deadly. Don't think their run game is great so that might help. Thier defense has given up points not many low scoring games for them this year. Will be a tough game in my opinion. 2 weeks to prepare and always the trick plays in bowls that has helped us.

NFL Draft prospect rankings: Best players by position
Quarterbacks
Matt Corral, Ole Miss
Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh
Malik Willis, Liberty
Sam Howell, North Carolina
Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati
Carson Strong, Nevada
Tanner McKee, Stanford
Bailey Zappe, Western Kentucky
This list is after the top 100 list. Its near the bottom. I was looking at a few of these lists to see where they were putting the ACC QB's and who a few specific teams might take. Then I noticed Zappe showing on some of these as a top 10 QB in this upcoming draft.

Top passing offense in the nation vs one of the best pass defenses.
I'm pretty excited about this game the more I read. This is a big chance to continue to make a name for ourselves in the prospect development world. Extra NFL eyes will be on this game thanks to Zappe. If we can show him up then that would do a lot to wipe away the sting of LL.

Good write up about both teams prospects.

Thanks for posting the story in the palm beach post, eye opening for the opportunity our defense has to make a statement.appdaze wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 10:19 pmhttps://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/new ... ijg32sjwhr

Switching subjects, further down in the paper there is this editorial about what Diaz was accomplishing at Miami and how on the cusp he was for solid season next year...what is Miami thinking? they had a great young coach who has taken his lumps and learned over the last few years and is ready to come out on the other side as the leader of a much improved culture...now they rip it away right when the fruit is ripening.

Re: 10-3 nets a trip to Boca FL
The more high lights I watch on this team the more I am impressed with them. They started the season 1-4 and ended the season 8-5 with the final loss being the conference championship. They are hot. Don't think they can't run the ball based upon their stats, I think they just want Zappe to shine and are a pass first offense, but they can run the ball. Their defense is capable of making stops too.
If we sleep on this team or think we win just because we show up it will be embarrassing. Zappe has thrown for over 5500 yards with 56 td's to 11 int's. Dude can read a defense and has players that can make plays.

Re: 10-3 nets a trip to Boca FL
My worry about WKU is it's the kind of offense our defense could have fits with. If we don't get pressure on the QB, he will pick apart our zone. Our LBs are going to have to be key in coverage and we are going to have to get pressure with just 4 a lot.
