Re: College Game Day Is Coming To BOONE!
Not interested in calling anybody out. I will just say that I do hope all those in attendance have fun but at the same time act appropriately and respectful. Comments made more than 15 years ago have been proven wrong or at least obsolete with wins against Michigan, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas A&M, and competitive losses to Tennessee, Penn State, Miami, etc. It's strange to me to be seemingly obsessed with those remarks especially given the trajectory of the program since. Whatever happened before or whatever anyone thinks the intentions are from ESPN, tomorrow is a reward for many decades of hard work, sacrifice, and success. I think it would be unfortunate if anyone brings disrespect to themselves, the program, or the university by forgetting that and making it only about themselves and their feelings.

The fact of the matter is that 15 years we were a cupcake. Make friendly jokes about that. But to say retire corso etc, things that insult the show and cast, are stupid and are a good way to prevent them from covering us in the future.

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about context. You holding a grudge for 15 years over an off handed comment says more about youNeersBy90 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 10:59 amI wish I was a perfect fan like you.appdaze wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 10:43 amIt's not their job to care. Stop being so self centered to think people have to care about us. They don't care about most of the schools they do shows for. They are entertainers. Their job is to be sent somewhere by espn to create an entertaining talk show about football games. Stop being such self-centered butthurt pansies. They've created a successful entertainment brand, whether you like them or not is inconsequential, and they are bringing that brand for a visit to Boone. I'm incredibly happy that they are. If you aren't, go back to living under a rock. If anyone brings up a sign that disrespects them for them doing the job that they are assigned to do then I hope you are banned from campus and sent back to kindergarten to learn some respect. Be grateful for anything that helps our alma mater. I really wish some of you could go talk to the players and staff and tell them what you say on here to get their genuine reactions. Maybe then you will understand and if you still don't get it then I truly question how much You actually care about App.
Go enjoy one of the best experiences Boone has ever had. If you can't enjoy it then stay home.

How to tell people we see ourselves as inferior without telling people we see ourselves as inferior. This is so stupid coming from grown men

I’d be willing to be every person in that crew is loving being in the high country today. It’s a amazing experience we take for grantedRankinApp wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 10:06 amEverything I've seen online so far is the GameDay personalities being extremely complimentary of Boone and the university.
Maybe a couple of them don't want to be here. So what? Show out and give them the greeting of a lifetime anyway and attitudes could change. I imagine they'll be surprised tomorrow morning and think Damn, we should have come to Boone sooner.

Re: College Game Day Is Coming To BOONE!
Back in '07 and during our run as the dominant FCS team in the land lots of proud (somewhat delusional) fans stuck their chests out and declared that the team who took down mighty Michigan was good enough to compete in the ACC or some other power conference. We came back from that game pretty beat up and even though we still won the championship we didn't run the table and didn't blow everyone out. Aside from more scholarship players we have depth that never existed in those days. For crying out loud we used starters on the kickoff team- which as I recall was an adventure most games. I heard we might have played Va Tech but folks tell me that never happened. While we put scares into some big boys and got those wins in '19 and last week we have still just risen above what many consider the cupcake division. Personally I'm fine being a G5 level power because there's a whole bunch of P5's by association only. Our road to what will hopefully be an expanded playoff will still be easier than most of the crappier P5's who will stay at 6-6 for years to come.

Hopefully all the cupcake talk will be tongue in cheek and Corso and Herbie will take it and run with it. I don't expect many boo birds but a ton of cheering on our school and celebrating it so the nation can see what App State is all about. Then go win big.

It's not about getting even. It's about being good enough that you don't have to get even. Herbstreit made an off-hand comment that quite frankly would have been long forgotten about had we not pulled off the win against Michigan. He apologized later that day. Most of us know that we have a special program, with a special culture in a special place. We get to show some good old southern hospitality and invite the world to our front porch this week. It's a special time for our special place.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 12:06 pmIt’s not about being perfect. It’s about context. Look at our opponent this week. (Whom, we should respect on the football field). They play in the shadow of the SEC. They won the Division II National Title twice in the late 1980's. Moved up to I-AA and made the playoffs 7 out of 8 years, including two trips to the semi-finals. Moved up to FBS in 2001 and knocked off #17 Missouri in 2004. They won 5 straight Sun Belt Titles from 2006-2010 and added a sixth in 2017. Their rise was similar to the rise that we followed. But, they don't have the culture that we have. Troy, AL is not Boone, NC.
We've accomplished a lot and earned the right to be the center of the College Football nation this week and tomorrow from 9-12. (and that will be seen by potential recruits and future assistant coaches) Only 77 campuses have hosted Game Day. Hopefully, we'll enjoy the moment, focus on the positives and make the Game Day crew want to come back and do it again.
And if a cupcake happens to land in front of Herbie, hopefully he laughs it off, apologizes again, and that's the end of it.

For Kirk's and the CGD production's sake, I hope he's at least learned how to pronounce our name or go the easy route with "App State", otherwise, the boo birds will be singing.

When Kirk first starts talking in the beginning of the show, all the fans should go silent and begin eating cupcakes. That would be a nice gentle ribbing to our boy Herbie!

And when our very own Luke Combs comes to the set, the entire crowd should burst into song for the nation to see, "longneck, ice cold beer never broke my heart! Like diamond rings and football teams...GO APP STATE!!!"

He’s in Boone and posted a video to Twitter earlier today. He got the pronunciation correct. I think it’s time for people to let go of the grudge and welcome him and the rest of the Gameday crew to Boone.moonshine wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 1:51 pmFor Kirk's and the CGD production's sake, I hope he's at least learned how to pronounce our name or go the easy route with "App State", otherwise, the boo birds will be singing.![]()
