I’d really like to see a blowout here. I think it would be a morale boost for everyone. I really think this team has the potential to win the Sun Belt this year. I know some don’t agree and the record doesn’t necessarily show it, but this team looks a lot better than last years. Let’s go down and start our quest for another championship with a bang.

Monroe's offense is bad and secondary is weak, great opportunity to have a break out game for many of them. The long ride home early Sunday morning and one of the longest in conference trips this week can be tough on teams mentally though.

I don't think we're seeing the same level of game discussion due to again the gut punch of a game, most people are likely cautious and waiting to see the team's response.

You’re right we had the sole buttwhooping of Georgia State last season. In 2021, we had 6. But in 2020, we only had 4. 2019 was 6. I only see 4 potential buttwhoopings this season (of FBS teams).

I hope we beat the brakes off of these guys but I don't see the horrible defense. They are 2-1 with an FCS win and beat Army. Blown out by A&M but are they that bad?

I think they are probably similar to ECU level.

App Wins - on a side note - I still see a lot of positives to this team. Both sides of the ball are improved and young in certain spots. I still believe the future of this year is for us to take. With the games we have left - there is not a team that should have the upper hand on APP. With some consistency on our side - we could make it interesting in the SB East this year - and make a push for the SB Championship.

Regardless of some of the chatter on this team and the future - 2023 still seems like a step in the right direction for App.

The only good offense they have faced is Texas A&M, and they got blown out. Also, their offense is pretty terrible, which means their defense will probably be on the field a lot. Even if their defense was good, if they're on the field all game, they will start wearing out.

While they are dead last in the country in passing efficiency, they actually average more yards per game on the ground than we do. Add to that we are 111th against the run. We are much balanced on offense than they are and we should win by a couple of scores, but our front 7 could be called upon to put the clamps on a pretty good rushing attack.

That statement makes no sense...We are leading the way and we are a premier non-traditional conference program. I can assure that we are b/c here in TX people knew who App was before we beat A&M.

5. More prime time ESPN games than any other SB school
6. Every SB wants to beat us which means we're the class of the conference

Think he meant leading the way in terms of wins and winning the SBC. All that you listed above is great, but that will die off if we continue to put out 6-6 and 7-5 seasons. Winning is the top of the chain, those you listed don't come if we go 6-6 every year or 7-5. At the moment, we are lagging behind JMU, Marshall, Troy, (ULL and Coastal and argument too) but we aren't far behind them and can jump them sooner than most thought. We've got a great opportunity and a good enough team to jump back into the race.

I don't have the time to look up the stats but since joining the Sun Belt I would bet we have the highest winning percentage for conference games and we have 4 conference titles. In that time period the next closest is 3 way tie with Troy, ArkSt & UL with 2. So he is still wrong.

Wining breads the stats above and in turn the stats above bread winning.

This is what I think divides us. Some think last year was a one off and well be back to competing for conference titles this year. We're obviously not going to win the SB every year but we should be in the mix. Others believe that last year was part of a trend. We went 3-5 in conference (and that took a miracle).

Good analysis. This same debate and discussion is going on on just about every sports message board in the world. We all want generally the same thing, we just have different ideas of how to get there. One thing I find a slippery slope is thinking this or that year should be good, and next year down, and so on...."wait 'til next year"...next year seldom comes for programs with that mindset (that's not at all in your post, just speaking generally).

This is a different discussion, but philosophically I feel coaches should be at App no more than 4-6 yrs. Jerry Moore was an outlier, and that's not happening again. But in that time span, they do good enough and bring us success and titles and get hired away; or they don't meet goals and we replace them with someone who will. I get that Clarke loves App...but if any coach is at App again for 10+ yrs, it's because we're stuck in mediocrity limbo with a .500 +/- 1-2 games lifer.

I am glad that is an opinion and not a fact.

Me neither. Just the yellow helmet doesn't contrast enough. I think this would look better with yellow or black pants. But whatever. They'll still look better than ULM's boring uniforms.

I should try to find my post I did probably a couple of years ago that asked- what will happen if by some chance App doesn't win 10 games for a couple of seasons? The reactions were predictable. The unrealistic or delusional segment of the "fan base" will go nuts. The calm and rational folks won't scream for coaching changes every week. There were some who wanted us to leave the Belt and go to the AAC because clearly we are superior with our Lamborghini roster. While we were handling the Idahos and New Mexico States and the Monroe's of the old Belt people got absolutely spoiled. Some standard was established in some minds and the thought of a .500 season became unthinkable. We are using the portal now and our young roster looks strong. Barring a rash of injuries we should do well in conference play. People need to just relax.

Wait till the new bowl line up looks. When we have good seasons we will not get easy bowl games. The Sunbelt is going to get the 5 and 6 seed from the SEC or ACC. No more middle Tennessee to sandpaper that ass. I look forward to the challenge but many are going to lose their mind when we don't win a bowl every year.
