Part of the the reason, IMO, for the early struggles was something mentioned multiple times: Clark not vibing with Aguilar.

Early on, Clark said Aguilar's laid-back approach drove him nuts because Clark himself wears his emotions on his sleeves and has his stomach in knots hours before a game. That might have had an impact on why Clark chose Burger.

Also, I feel Clark second-guessed himself a lot, even if he doesn't admit it. He got defensive of picking Burger over Aguilar after the first game despite not getting pressed too much by the media about it. Last year he regretted kicking that late field goal versus Troy and didn't attempt another field goal for the next month. Then the four first-half field goals at Wyoming (the first and third ones were mistakes IMO). And then you had the Coastal and ODU losses back to back that led to the defensive change, which almost backfired versus Southern Miss.

Now, he understands his QB and feels more comfortable as head coach. He's got a staff he trusts after some misses. And now he's borderline arrogant, although some of it is deserved and earned.
I don't mind the new found "arrogance", it's more of a chip on his shoulder and the team has adopted that personality as well.

Am I naïve to think Clark wouldn't leave us for an Indiana type job ala JMU news...I get that money talks and yada yada, but he strikes me as being a little harder to pry away than Satt...

I'm no AppStateNews, but Satt wasn't necessarily "pried" away. Word I got was he felt he had reached his ceiling with the program. Depends on an individuals goals and life situation. Clark has said and seems to support with his actions the idea that he is at App for the long haul, money be dammed. I csn relate, I got into my career with the idea of chasing the next big title and pay increase. The older I got, I want to be financially secure, but I am.willing to sacrifice bigger money for a situation I like. Mo money mo problems.

Clark loves Boone. I can see him moving on for a different challenge but he probably is content to raise his family in Boone. Once the kids are grown, maybe. That was Satt’s plans as well until things changed.

lets wait until someone waves about $4MM in front of his face. Its one thing to say that when you don't have an offer on the table.

One of the other things i've noticed about the team, they seem way more jazzed up on the sideline from the very first part of the year. Celebrating TOs, kickoffs, just seem more pumped in general. I like that I hope we keep it next year.

Someone called Clark arrogant, don't see that yet. I see a little swagger that came back, a swagger we got used to with Satt and Drink. I'm good with a little swagger, hes backed itu p the past 5 games.

All it took what the right motivation for Clark to find his swagger.

Someone commented that he would never leave.... people only commented that if money was waved in front of him he would go. I commented that if someone waved 5 or 6 million in front of him, and he didn't take it, he should have his brain checked. Do I believe that is going to happen? No..... Would I care? No. Would App State keep rolling? Yes, just like we did when Moore left, when Satt left, and when Drink left. Next man up. I'm not sure why that causes you to have a headache.

I think it was the continuation of people on each side of the argument wanting to be "right".

Clark to Duke???................. Cignetti??...............

Y'all do know there is a $3 Million vacont job there?
While the last five games have been great, how much s#!t will I take for pointing out that JMU is the only win this season against an FBS team with a winning record? That's not to take anything away from the turnaround, but if DG gets tricked into another extension...
Chadwell went 11-2 in 2021 and didn’t beat a team with a winning record until their bowl win that season.
He followed that up with a 9-4 season where his only wins against winning teams were against 9-4 Marshall and 7-6 Buffalo. His 4 losses were by 19 or more points and he lost his last three games.
20 wins in two seasons and only three against “winning” teams
For Liberty that was good enough to give him a big contract.

My early prediction and let you guys wallow in it....

What a season - we start out losing our 1st string QB mid way through the first game - in steps J.A. -- saves the day in Game 1 - takes the Holes to OT -- smokes the pirates -- has us in position out in Wyoming - orchestras a magic drive at Monroe - the defense finally turns the corner and now they all start clicking, beats JMU on the road and now here we are!!!!!

After calling for #TeamClark head for most of the past 13.5 months - You give up on the coach spoiled fans don't deserve #TeamClark goodness quite honestly.

A road dog - where #TeamClark thrives and the echos of old school little ole App State rise to the levels of great heights.

Tomorrow is #TeamClark day - and the SBC trophy returns to Boone!!!

DOte is just trying to keep this thread alive for pure ego reasons. It has nothing to do with anything else at this point. Just ignore everythig dote posts here. He just pulled a jcline and quoted himself just to bump the thread. Everyone just make your own threads and let this one go.

Yes, Go Clark & ASU - I never doubted the turn around would happen after 3-4 start which easily should have been 7-0 start.......

And please put some miss direction and design read/keepers for the quarterback when the ends are crashing. The biggest difference between this offense and our past offenses is we are very predictable on the run game. If we keep the back side end honest we would have more success running the ball. I know I sound like a broken record but please put something in the offense to keep them honest. We are going to have a talented offensive room next year, the coaches have to make the offense a little more complicated run game.
