Let’s be honest, is there any “best case” outcome here?

Well, just my opinion but although I completely agree that NIL needs to be reformed and have some governance applied, a presidential executive order is absolutely NOT the way to do it. Feel free to disagree.
I agree in principle it certainly is not ideal, but since EOs are theoretically about instructing various departments on how to handle administration of laws, there is room to fidgit regarding enforcement of various labor, taxation, monopoly standards.

The realitiy is the president is probably just throwing vague ideas out into the world to get parties involved to the negotiation table or to consider reforming themselves, which seems to be his MO since January for better or worse.

There is definately a precident for the president using the power of the office to get universities to come together and come up with a workable solution to athletics issues. That is how the NCAA came into being in the first place.

Unfortunately EOs are about the only way to get things started, congress is partisan, lazy, and self-serving and has been for a couple of decades.

Get the conversation started, if we wait on congress it will be 2030.

There is another way but will take some mpatience. Just let it go and it will burn itself out. It just isn't sustainable.

That is a recipe for some programs to be cannon fodder along the way. Let's be proactive.

Trying not to make this a political statement as I favor neither, but I fear any action by this administration. This administration seems to favor a handgrenade over a firecracker. What we really need is for college presidents to grow a pair.

NIL, transfer portal and major “college” athletics just like most aspects of society to include politics really just needs common sense but unfortunately we see very little of that now.

Starting to see more people using common sense, but a lot to clean up, but may be too late for NIL.

Do not confuse common sense with good sense. If common sense were real, everyone would have it.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I believe most people have common sense, however those that lack it are the most vocal.

President Donald Trump is making plans to create a presidential commission on college athletics.

The void of leadership has led us to this.

Another group of old men making the rules for 20-year-olds. They need someone more intimately into a 24 year old, who understands their mind and body. Maybe Belichick.

100000%

The NCAA’s inability and unwillingness to address this for years, and instead just hoard cash led us to the disaster we are in right now. Doubt congress wants to deal with it, and honestly everything they touch turns to crap. Hoping President Trump can restore some sense of order here. Just afraid this train might be too far off the tracks at this point.

GO APPS!!

To paraphrase Reagan, the most terrifying words to hear are "We're from the government, and we're here to help."
