The Good, The Bad and The Ugly- Georgia State

Unread post by t4pizza » Sun Oct 12, 2025 9:52 am

The Mountaineer hit the road for the trip down to Atlanta to play in a practically empty stadium. App State wins on the road 41-20 and keeps a perfect 12-0 record against the panthers. As hard as it is to believe, this was the first conference road win in over a year.

The Good- There was a lot of it in this game.

The Passing offense- Kohl seems to be gaining confidence and continues to make good decisions. He had a great day at 21 of 32 for 309 yards and 4 Tds. He spread the ball out and 11 different players had at least 1 reception. He showed considerable improvement from his first start and I anticipate that continues as the season progresses.

Tight Ends- this position had a big day with 3 different Tight Ends catching passes for a total of 161 yards and a TD. Cummings led the group with 6 catches for 94 yards and a Td, David Larkins ahd a great catch and run shedding would be tackler and picking up 40 yards on his only catch and Hamlett added 2 receptions for 27 more yards. Great day for that room.

Run Defense- The run defense is turning into the bulwark of our defensive effort. We only gave up 78 yards on 23 attempts for a3.4 yard averaage.

CLEAN GAME- we got a complete game with no turnovers and very limited penalties and as a result we cruised in this win.

The Bad-- not much at all

Injuries? - Our featured Back Dubinion left the game in the third and did not return. It was reported that he went into the locker room but did return to the sidelines with helmet on even though he never got back into the game (he wasn't needed at that point). Hopefully all is well but we won't know until next week as injury status is a well kept secret with this staff.

The Ugly-- nothing from us in my eyes.

The awful game day atmosphere of Georgia State. There is absolutely no support of the program and practically empty stands. If the NCAA ever enforced the attendance policy, Ga State would be sent packing to FCS. Pathetic.

No penalties of significance.

Any truth that GSU was actually down players OL and DL with injuries like I read before the game?

Not sure about the correct ruling on the punt hitting our player? kind of complexion changer.

The way we are playing, id guess we are double digit favorites vs Coastal?

The debate of who should have started yesterday was answered. The debate of who should start if both are healthy certainly leans towards JJ as well. Hard to bench a guy he executed that well inside the opponents 30.

Good - Kohl continues to improve and gain confidence. Better sync with receivers. Receivers getting more open. Defense looked much better across board until 4th qtr. team continues to do well with turnovers and penalties, kudos.

Bad-lost focus in 4th qtr and didn’t finish strong. I know we are getting subs some PT which is more valuable at this point. I accept trade off but DLo clearly said we must finish strong regardless of who is playing. QB3 is concerning and has shown no signs of being a viable working part if we really needed him. At some point his runway will run out. Thankfully we had a lead that it didn’t matter.

Nothing merited ugly for me yesterday.

Good-Dominant and no turnovers.
Bad-it looked like Dubinion walked off field with a shoulder injury. I hope it was just a bad stinger
Ugly-I can't call out much Ugly, we even got some calls in our favor we should not have.

Not much I can add different from everyone else, so I’ll just keep it short.
Good - The first 40 minutes (Great really)
Bad - The last 20 minutes (not really that bad based on the circumstances)
Ugly - Sun Belt Officiating (a weekly occurrence)
