Re: Coastal - 3:30pm
We put LED lights in our high school football stadium (6000 capacity) and baseball field (400 seating, but most fans brought their chairs or stood by the fences, as usual) in 2016. It was kind of a new thing then. None of the structure needed much changing. All was intact.
I know this was 10 years ago and small time compared to a college stadium (we had 4 towers in the stadium and 6 smaller towers/poles on the baseball field) and I know the price tag goes up each year. If I recall correctly, it was done for about $120,00. The school district paid the bill. The difference in the old yellow lights and the LED lighting was huge. Huge ain’t the right word.

Re: Coastal - 3:30pm
After completing a performance contract for my company and seeing the energy savings over the first year, LED makes a ton of sense and will significantly lower costs over time, them light are on a good portion of the year daily.

Before I fully commit to Kohl being our guy, I really think we need to see him complete a pass to himself. That’s my only criticism of him at this point. Can he even make that throw?

Yep, I was in this business and ROI is well worth the investment. Same as upgraded internet.

Re: Coastal - 3:30pm - Discussion
3:30 seems to work well for all those 1to 2 hrs away which is about 50% of the crowd. Now the brutal sun on the east and NEZ seats in Sept and early Oct suggests game time around 5 or later would be good then switch to 2.30-3.30.

I could handle 2PM. Its not the start time as much as the end time that I don't like. But, I'm just an old fart.

I hear ya. My old fartness is getting in the way of the 1970s lifestyle I want to lead. ( distant memory)

LEDs are so far down the list of what I’d like to see at KBS.
We have a ton of organic atmosphere. I think our main area of investment needs to be about improving and integrating the stands themselves and making sure we’re nailing the in-game with what we already have in place. Concessions. Bathrooms. Ingress/egress. I’d also like to hear the band more and canned music less.
Other schools can’t build mountains or truck in mountain sunsets. We need to fix what we have so we can all spend less time in lines and more time enjoying the surroundings.

Has it been confirmed anywhere whether he took over due to performance or injury? If the latter, is coach the type that would Wally Pipp AJ and stick with Kohl?NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 9:02 amBefore I fully commit to Kohl being our guy, I really think we need to see him complete a pass to himself. Which school?appst89 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 08, 2025 5:45 amThe 1A high school my son graduated from, with an enrollment of 450, has them.appstate24 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 6:26 pmMy old high school has them. It’s a shame we don’t.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 6:25 pmThat’s embarrassing and sad. Every other school has them that’s worth a dang. Can’t write the $500k check but if asked, I’d pay something.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 6:03 pmIt ain’t happening. As I said, 500k for one game a year isn’t worth it. I get your point and understand your rationale, but unless you want to write that check, there won’t be one written by athletics.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 5:44 pm
That’s it? AppStateNews claimed it was $2-3M, 2.5 years ago.
We would have used them last weekend late in the game. Oct 18, weeknight home games…etc.
Any game after 4pm mid October and beyond needs lights. 2nd half’s for sure.
And recruiting (this goes for basketball and other sports programs that tour the football facilities). Other NEZ events…etc
No brainer for $500k if it helps gets recruits and improves the atmosphere. Where do I donate?
Glad to know the cost though. That means they are talking about it or at least priced it out!
GO APPS!!

Improving the lights would fall under "fixing what we have".appchicago wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 10:53 amLEDs are so far down the list of what I’d like to see at KBS.

Have you seen our broadcasts? Feel like I have to hold my phone flashlight in front of the TV to see it (kinda like people reading menus at in a dimly lit restaurant).
You cannot fix any of our concession/restroom, ingress/egress problems without space. In order to get more space, we have to spend tens of millions, maybe more.
I agree, there are a few "smaller budget" things we do need to fix though.

I get absolutely roasted until mid-November. You have people in long sleeves, jackets, and pants on the West side, and then pools of sweat and sunburn on the East side. That being said, it's pretty convenient in November.
Re: Coastal - 3:30pm - Discussion
Agree with this. Our in-game experience is lacking. Severely, in my opinion.appchicago wrote: ↑Mon Oct 13, 2025 10:53 amLEDs are so far down the list of what I’d like to see at KBS.

Re: Coastal - 3:30pm - Discussion
Our 3:30 start time has been explained before. A large portion of our fan base travels up the mountain from Greensboro and Charlotte. Young families need time to get the early morning kids sports games in and still be able to make it to Boone. Then they need the game over in time to get the kids home and in bed before they melt down. So unless tv dictates the game time it will be 3:30. Keep in mind that “TV” doesn’t care about the stuff on ESPN3. So unless we are on a network we will play at 3:30.
