Re: ODU Discussion
This is how you are supposed to root for a rebuilding team. This is healthy and good.
If we are still talking like this in two years, then we have a problem.

Bottom line. The officials tried to help us and their QB tried to help us and we still lost.

I agree. Put an experienced OC in the booth (I have an idea of what offensive assistant coach should go) so Dowell isn't just looking at his sheet for 4 hours and gets more of a feel of the sideline.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 6:47 pmThat said, I’m not sold on DL serving as both HC and OC. Situational play calling has been questionable at times, and I think it may be too much to ask of DL for him to wear both hats. Please understand: this isn’t a knock on him at all, and we all know why he made that decision. I’m just wondering if it might make sense for him to accept that he needs to be a HC and let someone else run the offense.
There's a huge issue with the team once they get off script. The only offensive guys upstairs is the TE Coach Yurachek in his first college job and then two older assistants who aren't on field coaches.
It's a different world than when Satterfield was a head coach and defacto OC. Not having a dedicated OC is what many are citing as the reason Napier didn't work at Florida.

Are they a good team? No one is a bigger homer than me, but it’s funny how you of all people gave zero quarter to the last staff, but it’s passing out orange slices and we all tried hard these days. I’m not saying you are even wrong necessarily, but it’s funny how the expectations have shifted so dramatically. We play this exact game last year and you are bustin a spring. This year, it’s hey we didn’t lose that badly. Just an interesting observation. I know I know. You will hit me with the new coach comeback.

Re: ODU Discussion
You're wrong. When Clark was first hired I was all in. It wasn't until the last two years that things changed. Besides, I'm not stupid and I realize that this coach hasnt gotten a chance to even have a full season here...now if we don't start to see progress next year then that may change. The fact that Coach Dlo did the right thing by dismissing folks that the past regime would have let slide let's me know we are trending in the right direction.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:33 pmAre they a good team? Re: ODU Discussion
You get that we are rebuilding from the last staff? I would argue that in the five years that preceeded the last staff we were in the top ten percent of G5 programs. The five years under the last staff produced no conference titles, and were ineligible for bowl gameas many times as they won bowl games. The last staff went 16-17 against FBS opponents in its last three years. You got to Loggains & Co. a couple years give what was left here by the last staff.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:33 pmAre they a good team? Re: ODU Discussion
With depleted D line, I wonder if the 3 man front is why we will see the rest of the year.... Or was this an ODU D plan given the QB run/pass option. Either way, felt like D played better than I was expecting.

Re: ODU Discussion
That's an interesting question. I think it was an ODU thing because of the way that spread the field but we shall see on Nov 6.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 5:09 amWith depleted D line, I wonder if the 3 man front is why we will see the rest of the year.... Re: ODU Discussion
I hear you and I'm curious whether part of the reason that we could afford the staff that everyone was excited about at the beginning of the season because DLo assumed OC duties and saved money in that department?WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 8:39 pmMaybe he'll improve or maybe it's best to bring in an veteran OC and a dual-threat QB and let DLo focus on the overall team, overall game strategies, working the officials (you can't do that and call plays), etc. We didn't have to go the new head coach/learn on the job route. But, we did, so maybe it's best to optimize our current path.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 25, 2025 7:54 pmIt took Satterfield several years to get a handle on the dual roles. I am 100% in favor of what DL is doing to try at App. For my part, I don’t regret the player dismissals; they were painful but necessary. DL is attempting to restore a culture of accountability and equality at App. No one is above the team, and that should resonate with all of us.
That said, I’m not sold on DL serving as both HC and OC. Situational play calling has been questionable at times, and I think it may be too much to ask of DL for him to wear both hats. Re: ODU Discussion
If it's true South Carolina didn't make the turn last year offensively until DLo's play calling duties were revoked, I don't think DLo has ever called a successful offense.

Re: ODU Discussion
Listened to the post game interview and the outsiders comment is in poor form.
Those outsiders were here before you and will be around the program after you.
Be better.

Re: ODU Discussion
Most of my Gamecock friends said DLo was still involved in calling plays.
Ironically, they all want the current OC, Mike Shula, Fired.

Watching the ESPN game highlights from across the country, QBs that can run ( broken record I know) are huge assets. Difference makers.

Re: ODU Discussion
Asked about the QB change.
Said “that’s an internal decision” should have stopped there. Then continued and said “we’re not going talk about that with outsiders”.
Poor choice of words.
