Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
With a wife who played and three daughters in the sport since the oldest was in 3rd grade ('26, '28, and '30 grad years), I know this from first-hand experience. Between just taking them to games when they were young, to various club and showcase tournaments, to going through ID camps and college visits now for a second daughter with a whole different set of target schools than the first one had, I think I have been to over 25% of all the D1 field hockey venues and a number of D2 and D3 as well. There are nicer facilities, but none have a better setting. They are usually just crammed into a random corner of campus. JMU's stadium next to a Wal Mart parking lot.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:54 pmIt is a nice view of the surrounding hills and mountains around State Farm area. I made an edit. And I saw UMass and added up three and still typed two thinking of JMU and us.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:34 pmThere is actually 3 MAC teams this week. New full member UMass has been in the poll all year. It is nice to see that JMU did not drop out after the App loss.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 8:11 pmTwo MAC teams in the polls. Clearly losing to a better team did not hurt JMU much.
I have been saying for years over on the Sun Belt board that if the SBC were to have enough schools to sponsor field hockey (or maybe co-sponsor with CUSA), it would be one of the better hockey conferences.

Just how close would the JMU FH field be to the railroad tracks that run through their campus? Asking for a friend.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:11 pmWith a wife who played and three daughters in the sport since the oldest was in 3rd grade ('26, '28, and '30 grad years), I know this from first-hand experience. Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
The JMU field hockey stadium isn't near the railroad tracks that runs through the middle of campus. Instead, it is on the opposite of the interstate highway that runs through the middle of campus. It does have a different type of track surrounding it though - the running kind.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 30, 2025 9:49 pm

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
I sent an email to the coach about breaking into the polls and how proud I was of the team. I mentioned the grit the team had being down 0-2 to Ohio last week and how they fought back. It truly reflected a great team spirit. I told her I was not expecting a reply as she is busy but just that she was being noticed by alumni.
She took time to reply about an hour ago and mentioned she would pass my note on to the team.

Well, the high from breaking into the rankings didn't last long. Conference foe Miami (OH) beat App 7-0. It doesn't get any easier as a ranked Liberty squad comes to Boone tomorrow.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
When App broke into the ranking I was worried about going 0-2 this weekend, but Friday was just uglier then I thought possible. With App, JMU,and now UMass, Miami isn't dominating the MAC like they used to. Yesterday they seemed to be saying "Hey noobs, this is still our conference."
Liberty only beat an uncharacteristically weak ODU 1-0 yesterday, so hopefully App can rebound and shock the Flames.

App beat Kent State 9-0 today. This was the season's last home game I believe. Must have been pretty cold out there today on that wet field.

Sure was a fun one to be at for my first viewing. Got to chat for a moment with the coach afterwards. App has a class act there.appleachian wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:20 pmApp beat Kent State 9-0 today. This was the season's last home game I believe. Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
Seven seniors were recognized Friday, and many of those have been key contributors during their entire career at App. This season was a testement for the value of experienced teamwork was I would guess (though I haven't checked) they are the most successful senior class in App field hockey history.
It will tough, but 3 more wins this weekend in the conference tournament would be a really nice way to finish things off. There are only 8 at large bids to the NCAAs so while the MAC has four great teams at 16 UMass, 17 Miami, 26 App, and 27 JMU in the RPI, its still likely a 1 bid league.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
This has to to be the strongest conference year App has been in in decades, maybe ever. I don't ever remember the NorPac being this strong. It would be good to see the MAC get some recognition for an at-large bid, but I am sure history plays a lot in this as it does in other sports.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
I could probably pull a Joe Lunardi or ESPN Bubblewatch regarding why or how Miami and UMass both should get in, but since it doesn't involve App, I won't. App would need the NCAA to expand the field by about 6-8 before next Sunday for App to be contention for an at-large.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 4:33 pmThis has to to be the strongest conference year App has been in in decades, maybe ever. 18 spots. I assume nice conferences. They should go to 20 teams and each corner of the bracket can have one round 1 game that feeds into 3 teams starting in round 2.

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season
There are 10 conferences and 8 at-large (the ACC will be getting 4 of the 8 this year). I would like it to go to 10 and 10.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 7:26 pm18 spots. Actually, I would like it to go to 11 conferences, with the new one being a hybrid Sun Belt and C-USA league - App, ODU, JMU, Liberty, Delaware, and one other for the 6 required for an auto-bid (probably Longwood).
