It can help with politics to embrace the promotion side but if we win the program will sell. I get what you are saying about the harder job for Kerns but I do think Loggains has a harder job in terms of the pressure from fans and media. Kerns has done a great job and shown that you can win at App in basketball. I know this era is different but the right staff can win in football in Boone as well. We will find out this year where Loggains stands. I feel like we should see a much better team and he should show some improvement as a coach in-game this year.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 4:55 pmEven though I’ve always been a football first fan, I’m becoming more interested in our basketball program because Dustin Kerns from day 1 has recognized the need to connect with fans, promote the program and promote the players. And, in a football first school, his job is inherently harder than DLo.
DLo may want to be a head football coach, but he doesn’t embrace the role. Pariod. End of story.

I think what I (and a few others) are saying is that our strategic communications dept are perfectly willing, able, and capable of doing the job and producing this stuff, but that they cant because our coach would prefer not to, for whatever reason.

Re: Where’s the Info?
To your point, some key contributors over at Jack Branch decided to leave for greener pastures. Fewer hands mean heavier work. Maybe it’s possible the remaining staff are working like crazy just to keep the ship afloat?
Or maybe Loggains is playing his cards close because the team’s better/worse than expected?
One wonders.

Re: Where’s the Info?
That may be 100% the problem. It was all we could do to get numbers on the roster until a few days ago and there was no depth chart last year. Definitely of the NFL Belichick model of being open about his team.AppState222 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 6:49 pmI think what I (and a few others) are saying is that our strategic communications dept are perfectly willing, able, and capable of doing the job and producing this stuff, but that they cant because our coach would prefer not to, for whatever reason.

There’s a 5 minute interview with Loggains from after yesterday’s practice posted on 247.

Winning is certainly important. But, a college football coach is the face of the program. Even if a product is great, you still have to market the program, represent the program and advocate for the program.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 6:23 pmIt can help with politics to embrace the promotion side but if we win the program will sell. Appalachian State has a dedicated, enthusiastic, involved fan base. Yes, we are in a new era in regards to the haves and have nots and the pay for play model, but there should be a buzz about the program three weeks before the season starts.
The excitement should be building. Is there a buzz about the season? Is there a buzz about playing at ECU and State? is there a buzz about getting back to the top of the conference?
If the leader’s not beating the drum and selling this team and the fan base isn’t getting the info, in today’s content heavy era ….

Re: Where’s the Info?
It is pretty sad that we got more information about fall camp with our FCS teams 20 plus years ago then we get now despite all the advancements in technology. This idea of not giving fans information is not a good one at all. Our fans are craving information and involvement and we get neither. Not a good look.

Players and coaches are using us to hopefully get a big payday. Loyalty is gone and I am just not going to hold a coach to the same standard I use to.

Re: Where’s the Info?
It is sad but we had a lot more media at that point as well. Loggains has some practices open to the media so if they just come and write about us the info would be there. The media has either shut down or lost interest because of the recent losing. Just win and the stories will come.t4pizza wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 8:44 pmIt is pretty sad that we got more information about fall camp with our FCS teams 20 plus years ago then we get now despite all the advancements in technology. Remember though that if we do win big the bad news is that NIL agents will converge on Boone to try and lure our players into the portal for a payday. Just how the new era is these days.

Re: Where’s the Info?
We win in basketball and we lose players. It still doesn’t excuse the Head Coach from being a public leader. When you give up that standard, you are just another program. And then, your fanbase becomes just another fanbase.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 9:39 pmIt is sad but we had a lot more media at that point as well. There’s a reason to hold a leader to a standard.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Bro are you serious with this take? So we as fans are supposed to blindly support this roster and coaching staff, Spend a bunch of money and time but not have any expectations of them? this idea that the head man doesn’t owe his fan base anything regarding just basic information about the roster is ridiculous. So what standard do you hold the coach to exactly, besides seemingly being indifferent to the fan base and program he’s getting paid to head? The notion that no one knows hardly anything about the roster is amateur hour. As is the idea that we should all just wait until we “start winning” to even know who’s on a depth chart is equally amateur hour.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 9:36 pmI get you but if we win the excitement will come but if we start poorly the excitement will be gone anyway. Re: Where’s the Info?
I am with SeattleApp and WASU on this one. Enthusiasm makes the difference. I blame Gillin and the Dlo. I am not very excited about this year...mainly because I know absolutely nothing about this team. I will be there and I hope we win...but I am looking forward to basketball season, not football season because at least I know our coach. Kerns is doing everything he can to get fans in seats at the basketball games.

Re: Where’s the Info?
As a fan base, a lot of the fun before the season is learning about who may be a contributor. Who’s standing out in practice and may push for a bigger role. And for other schools, folks go on the message board and talk about the players. It’s a great way to build excitement for the upcoming season as well as just giving the fans a general idea of who is suiting up this fall. Coming off a terrible season with a bunch of new players, I don’t really get keeping everyone in the darkspacemonkey wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 11:39 pmI am with SeattleApp and WASU on this one. As to how any of them may fit this season. I don’t know how much is lack of interest by the media/lack of a beat writer for App or just a head coach who thinks playing this aloof act is the move. You can disclose who is looking good in fall camp without giving the Maine Black Bears the playbook. Instead the attitude is if you like App you’ll show up. Stop complaining. You get what you get.

To be fair, that has been the attitude of our athletic department for a good while. They treat fans like a necessary annoyance.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 4:12 amInstead the attitude is if you like App you’ll show up. Stop complaining. You get what you get.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Going back a long time ago, we haven't had any good media presence (other than Michigan and A & M) since Mary Garber at the W-S Journal passed away and Ethan Joyce left.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Re: Where’s the Info?
Opinions do not bother me. What bothers me is the national shame that was brought upon the football team and athletic program when a player assaulted another player with his helmet. This video continues to be the most viewed video in App State Athletics history. That event changed some things in the athletic department. Unfortunately, the fans have to bear the brunt of those actions and changes more than any player had to, which sucks.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 10:42 pmThis must be killing you. I disagree with this. The incident should have zero impact on a coach or coaches (OC/DC) giving a periodic interview after fall practices. That's hogwashASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2026 7:52 amOpinions do not bother me.
