Re: Recruiting, 2014
ESPN is still showing that we have offered these 2 guys who are still unsigned at this point. I haven't heard anything about either one on the boards, but we could use a good PG (Robertson) and a 6'7" wing who is still growing!

Re: Recruiting, 2014
No problem at all. Didn't mean for my post to be so short. I was keeping track of the baseball game and getting a football offer listed. I just wanted to let you know about the recruiting pages. I usually put the info for each player up in each thread when I add them to the Main pages but it's always good to check.app97 wrote:my bad. Re: Recruiting, 2014
Wonder if Coach Fox has someone in Dallas for this annual "player market?" I know that they were seen in several locations around NC over the last 6 or 7 days. Even down on Garner Road in Raleigh taking a look at 2014 PG William Walker.
Did I say Garner Road AAU? Yeah, I did. http://hardwoodhoopscentral.com/garner- ... au-program

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: Recruiting, 2014
This weekend is the only one in the spring in which coaches are allowed to view recruits at AAU events, and there are several big tournaments around the country.
One of those is the Adidas Uprising tournament in Dallas, so it might make sense for App to have a presence there and also at the juco event in the same city.
But there are several others, most notably the Nike EYBL in Sacramento, which I have to think would be top priority, both because it's probably the biggest one and because of App's relationship with Nike.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
There are regional "showcase events" all over the country this weekend. Spent about 10 minutes scanning Twitter last night and counted no less than 28 events--spread from coast to coast. Every one had it own group of gurus; it own system of doing recruiting videos; and it's own set of "blue chippers."
Looks as if being a good collegiate recruiter may start with being able to weed out the fakes and imposters from the competent and ethical talent scouts.

New 2014 offer out: From reports PG Armel Potter (6′ 1″ 165) of Sprayberry High School in Kennesaw, GA has received an offer from App. I have added a player page with two video clips to the Main Page. Potter is a 24/7 3 star who is a former FAU commit. He decommitted April 18th. He has recently picked up additional offers from Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, and North Florida.

First observations on this guy are that he's got tight handles and moves well in traffic. I'm not sure he's as pure a scorer as Flomo is, but he showcases more range. One thing I really liked was that Armel got a lot of points coming off good defense. He seems like a good player and I'd love for anyone to come to Boone right now that wants to.

PG Tevin Jones (6′ 1″ 182) of A.L. Brown High School/Fishburne Military School (prep)/Univ of Virginia has been added to the Main Page with a player page and a video clip from his HS days. He was listed as a Rivals 3 star and ESPN 2 star recruit. All the sites list him at 6' 1" but his UVA bio lists him at 6' 0". I went with 6' 1" until the App roster comes out.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Nice little scouting report here: http://phenomhoopreport.com/first-piedm ... ons-recap/
"Kinney came into playing time later in the year, after there was some roster shuffling made, and he took that opportunity and ran with it. Fork Union has run a 4 out 1 in type system since I can remember, but after bringing Kinney into the line up they went to a 5 out system. Showing his versatility, Kinney is able to play in this as he shows ability to put the ball on the floor and shoot to deep range. However, not shown much in this system is Kinneys ability to post. When given the opportunity, Kinney gets deep position where he sits on his man and provides a big target. With long arms and strong shoulders Kinney showed the ability to finished over his right shoulder with a soft jump hook or an up and under. Kinney has never played AAU as he had dreams of playing lacrosse, so coming from a small high school in Ohio and not playing much the first half of the year, Kinney is a brand new name. In the last month he has received offers from Presbyterian and VMI as well as interest from Akron, Ohio U, and Ball St. Coaches should get by to see him, he is worth the trip."
Apparently he's originally from Delaware, Ohio. Not sure how small the school is, but I know it's about 30 minutes north of Columbus.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Rutherford B. Hayes High School in Delaware City, OH has a 2013-14 enrollment of 1,423 students according to GreatSchools.org. If its Average Daily Membership (ADM--the measure the NCHSAA uses to classify schools for conference membership) was anywhere near that 1,423 number, it would be the equivalent of the lower end of 4A in our state. Schools in NC of similar size include A. L. Brown in Kannapolis, Jay M. Robinson in Concord, Charlotte Catholic and Winston-Salem Parkland.EastHallApp wrote:Nice little scouting report here: http://phenomhoopreport.com/first-piedm ... ons-recap/

I did some checking on Griffin Kinney. He was a member of the Ohio prep all-academic team as a senior, while participating in both lacrosse and basketball. He's already 19 years old; and could be a 20 year-old college freshman. In one write-up I found, he was quoted thusly..."I plan to commit to a university that is a good fit for me not only as an academic student exploring fields of study but as a basketball athlete as well."
People are already saying that we got a steal in this young man.
Josh Howard Military Challenge 5 Names on the Rise
http://phenomhoopreport.com/josh-howard ... ames-rise/
For instance, FUMA participated in the Josh Howard Military Challenge, and five players were listed as "some guys who were not getting much love that played as sure fire Division 1 kids." Kinney was one of the five listed...
Griffin Kinney – Fork Union
6’8 Power Forward Delaware, Ohio
Kinney stepped onto the floor as the guy no one knew. It only took one half of the game for everyone to start asking, however. The 6’8 lefty has surprising length and a big time motor for his size. Kinney has soft touch to three from the pick and pop, and the ability to put it on the floor and attack the basket. Fork Union runs a four and five out motion type offense usually, but on the chances that Kinney had one on one in the post, he scored. Not only did he score he did so over both shoulders.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
I've been on this since this morning. I've heard both reports (commit and signed) which is why I didn't list it. I was waiting for a return call. He'll be signing soon enough if he hasn't already.asu66 wrote:This site says that Kinney has signed a LOI. Tommy Bowman reported only a verbal commitment.

So glad Fox and the staff were able to add another body to this upcoming year's roster. We certainly need the depth. Good things happening so far in the Fox era!

Looks like Coach Allison was the man that got us Kinney. He should come in handy next season.
