I didnt see where we got a RB? Are we hoping to pick one up in the portal?
We will likely add at least one in the portal but there are a few things to watch or consider:
1. Can we retain Lewis? I don’t know at this point. Losing Porter hurts but it does allow for a few extra dollars to be used elsewhere because he was going to get a package to stay.
2. What does Kanye Roberts do after his injury? Does he even want to be here? He was in the portal at one time last year and came back. Does he want to be here longer? Hopefully. Does he have a choice after his injury? Probably not honestly.
3. Will the NCAA change the eligibility? The 5 year eligibility ruling is set to be challenged this winter. That would affect Dubinion if any changes occurred.
4. Do you trust Alexander, Calhoun or Guest to take the next step? I have no clue obviously but someone would need to if you don’t explore the portal heavily.
When they do the 5-year ruling I do hope that they get rid of redshirts. I say this for a few reasons. 1. It would be easier to know who is coming back or not. 2. I think it would help schools like us because we could tell a lot of talented HS players to come play for us instead of wasting a year sitting on the bench in SEC when they can put up film and develop more with reps on the field.

I had assumed that, if they pass the 5 year ruling, it would eliminate red shirt years. I have zero feel for what rule the NCAA will actually do though since logic doesn't seem to be the driver. It would definitely simplify things administratively for them, so seems to make sense.

That said....some of these young men in our signing class look ready to play next year, especially if they make it to classes this Spring. This is a huge step. Signing these HS classes is still the backbone of our future though. We have had to rely on the portal for volume because of the coaching changes, attrition, etc. Ultimately though, consistency of our on-field product and building that App culture back will depend on these HS kids. I'm excited about this class!

I believe the 5 year rule is intended to get rid of every redshirt available. Everyone just has a blanket 5 years. It should make everything more simplified.

Some signees are ready to play. The JUCO guys will be higher up in the rotation to begin with but there are a few freshman who hopefully can make an impact.
