I don't see an upgrade as good news. I see eliminating in game caned music as good news.
The canned music needs to go, bcoach. Is it official that it is going away or is this wishful thinking?

As much as I've liked the Sean Connery "Welcome to the Rock" clip, I'm kind of amazed that we've never had an issue using it as part of our opening sequence. I don't know whether this type of use requires permission or what might be involved. Ultimately though, it seems odd that we cling to the use of a movie clip of an actor with no association (and probably no knowledge) of Appalachian State as a "tradition." As I said, I like the clip but I think we need to find a routine that is rooted here at App State and let that become our tradition. Using alumni (former athletes, coaches or others with ties to the University) would seem to be a great way to go.

I know it was tried previously in 2013 but the execution was the problem there. I'm pretty plugged in but I barely saw mention of the issue other than on this board. I think giving it another attempt with appropriate marketing and execution would be worth trying. Just my opinion.

It is my understanding, and I may be wrong, but it was used because the nickname of our stadium was the "Rock." Too, I think it was from one of the James Bond movies.

I think you're showing your age NewApp, the clip is from the movie "The Rock" which is about a group taking control of Alcatraz (also nicknamed The Rock) and holding San Francisco hostage with missles. Has Nick Cage and is a pretty good movie from the 90s probably...has nothing to do with football. But it's a great clip that has been a Kidd Brewer favorite for a while...

Yes, I understand WHY we have used it and even where it came from, but it is a reach to associate it with Appalachian. :)

@Yosef84 I like the idea, if we had different alumni replace the Connery scene by clearly and emphatically saying, "WELCOME TO THE ROCK!!"

My complaint is this year'a intro has been lackluster and flat until the fireworks go off. I'm not sure why it changed from last year, but if the idea is to continually update, it should build with the players shaking the helmet until someone yells "WTTR!" And the fireworks.

Love this idea. I am not sure what it is but the WTTR Sean Connery clip has just never been emphatic. Would like to see it "enhanced" somehow. It just appears so short and ends quickly that it sometimes goes overlooked.

Much better than what we've had lately. Piped in music was bad.....but it wasn't as bad as its been and at least there was some recognizable music.
The "what we've had lately" PA announcer is a pro also. ASU alum, award-winning forensics and broadcasting major, and a 35+ year veteran of radio. Having someone truly vested in the university and the game-day experience is important IMO.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Yep. I'm not sure I ever saw that movie.
