Re: This is why I'm devastated
I completely disagree with this line of thinking. We get the attention that we deserve. Let me pose this to you. In 30 seconds, how many G5/P5 or FCS/FBS wins can you name from last year? How many can you name from two years ago? My point is that 99.9% of them are irrelevant to anyone outside of the respective fan bases. I say 99.9% because there is one that happened 10 years ago that still gets air time on a national stage. No one created polls or ranks teams by state or region because being better or worse is a fluid situation. It is what it is. Practice to beat the next team up on the schedule. Everything else will take care of itself.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 1:04 pmI'm not moving the goalposts. North of Orlando. South of Annalpolis. East coast, West of Deep gap. Boarder state. Eastern time zone. Whatever. This board is full of the "why don't we get more respect, nationally?" or "why don't we get more votes in the polls?". The answer is we can't beat Wake at home. We're not in the top half in our own state or the top third in the states that border us.

Re: This is why I'm devastated
As much as I have heard some say they are "tired" of hearing about the Michigan game it is absolutely what put us on the national map - I have yet to talk to one football fan - from Maine to Florida to California who when asked or when hearing about APP football always mention the Michigan game - I would say we are probably (Nationwide) the most notable P5 program other than the Academies, probably Boise State, maybe Memphis and certainly more so than ECU AKA-Tar Heel Lite ---

Re: This is why I'm devastated
Not sure why so many are completely obsessed with our record against the P5's. I completely agree with many of the sane folks on the board. Only really count the last 4! Why even consider the losses while we were FCS? I'm willing to bet that hardly anyone bitched this loudly when we took those losses years ago. We all said thanks for the check and now move on towards the playoffs. We came within probably a bad call and missed kick from beating UT and practically the same scenario Saturday. A couple bounces our way in those two games and we could say we are 2-2 in the last 4 against P5's. Obviously woulda, shoulda, coulda but still. Clemson turned out to be pretty good and I believe UGA is top 10??? I agree with those who want to see the App v Marshall, ECU, UNC games. Penn State next year. Whatever.

Re: This is why I'm devastated
Yep, I also believe that the magic of that game is one reason why so many are so desperate to start beating P5s again. Everything came together in that game...including some luck. If their running back, Hart, had been able to play the whole game it would have been a very different outcome. He was a horse that we couldn't slow down.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 2:27 pmAs much as I have heard some say they are "tired" of hearing about the Michigan game it is absolutely what put us on the national map - I have yet to talk to one football fan - from Maine to Florida to California who when asked or when hearing about APP football always mention the Michigan game - I would say we are probably (Nationwide) the most notable P5 program other than the Academies, probably Boise State, maybe Memphis and certainly more so than ECU AKA-Tar Heel Lite ---
ALSO, if my memory serves me correct, similar to what Wake did to us Saturday, we actually blocked TWO (2) field goal attempts by Michigan, the first one was deflected enough to not go in and I believe it was by the much-maligned-by-some-on-this-board Brian Quick. Of course the game ending one by Lynch is the one everyone thinks of.

I hope that Barkley RB for Penn State goes NFL before next season. I watched the second half of the Iowa vs Penn State game at the hotel after our game and that dude is SICK. He left some of Iowa's LB's and DB's grabbing for air half the time. In the meantime NMSU is next. And that "crappy" UMass team we play on the road came within a TD of beating UTenn on Saturday so anything can happen on Saturdays.

Re: This is why I'm devastated
I don't really get it, why so bummed out? We're possibly THE best G5 football team in NC and our border states, loss in overtime to a SEC P5 school away (Tennessee) and came a blocked kick away from defeating another P5, all in our first 3 years as an official FBS team. So what's the big deal? I'm satisfied! You expect us to beat a team like 'Bama just like that?

Re: This is why I'm devastated
I'd say Navy is better. Very disciplined... something we're not. Run the triple option to perfection, something we've historically struggled against when good team run that offense. Other than Navy I would agree with you. Although with a close win to Texas State and an irrelevant Savannah State win, it's too early to determine at this point.AppfaninCAALand wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 7:57 amApp is the best G5 team on the east coast north of Orlando. I'd say it's a pretty safe bet Saquon will be entering the draft. Not to change anyone's expectations against the Nittany Lions but they are losing quite a few players going into next year. I realize they have some studs in the 2-deep but they will have to replace some key pieces.SpeedkingATL wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 2:43 pmI hope that Barkley RB for Penn State goes NFL before next season. Re: This is why I'm devastated
Yea I looked at the depth chart incorrectly. He's a senior academically. Maybe App will luck out and he'll either enter the draft early (doubtful) or be a grad transfer to another program. One can hope right?/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2017 10:14 amYou edited that QB spot before I could correct you![]()

I think they may have a couple of Juniors who may test the draft waters.

Re: This is why I'm devastated
I'm more pissed, and sick at the stomach than I am disappointed. This was one bitter pill to swallow, when you think back over the points left on the field, and untimely mistakes that cost us this game. Give Wake credit for playing a fairly clean game (in terms of mistakes), keeping their poise when behind, and for fighting back to put themselves in position to claim the "W" at the end. We basically have no one to blame, but ourselves. And chew on this: App amassed nearly 500 yards total offense and 27 first downs, yet came away with a measly 19 points. But.... we fought like Mountaineers, who take on all comers, and don't back down. For that, it's always good to be a Mountaineer, win, lose or draw!

Who came up with that great quote, "its better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt?"appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 1:04 pmI'm not moving the goalposts. For some reason that quote popped to my mind just now.

I believe the vast of majority are pleased with our progress and the press we get now is light years better than it was and we get mentioned every weekend because we are now FBS. I'm over the Wake game. We lost a game we shoulda won. I'm looking forward.

Re: This is why I'm devastated
You beat me to it, we are very well respected as a G5 program. I bet most people would put us in the top 10 in G5 world. Three years in...I'll take it. I am very excited to get at some of these G5's that would be perceived as better. I think we got one last year in Toledo. Looking forward to Marshall, ECU, So Miss etc. Winning these are what we are supposed to do. Not beating UGA. I ate crow on my Wake game prediction and happily so, let one get away there and although devastated is not a word I used I am still quite disappointed.

I understand the realities of our football program and by the same token proud of our quick progress as well as taking things in stride.
But, I love and admire the attitude of many in our fanbase, myself included, that expect more. I like the keep pounding demanding for more success spirit....I hope I see the day we ARE a national powerhouse program.

IMO Georgia.is a much better team than their ranking indicates......not because of the thumping they laid on Tennessee today......their defense is TOUGH!
