Re: MBB @ TXSt 02/27/26
Arkansas State and Coastal also won. If we lose Friday and the other top 7 teams win out, then we're looking at a 3 way tie for 5th, which we likely lose the tiebreaker to Arkansas State since they beat Coastal, think Coastal would fall behind us as they'd be 1-2 in the threesome and we'd be 1-1. Not sure that's a fair way to do it since we didn't beat Arkansas State, so not sure if that's how they do the tiebreaker.

I can’t see any real difference in being the 1 or the 2 seed. If the tournament goes chalk the top 2 play for the marbles anyway. The only difference is a banner to hang in the gym

I’d rather win the conference outright, but a 2 seed might help us with not playing Marshall again.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 8:46 amI can’t see any real difference in being the 1 or the 2 seed. I'll take the banner. You try to win each victory/championship as they are in front of you. Our next game is for the regular season championship.
If we are fortunate enough to win the regular season champ, great. The other stuff on tournament seeding is noise that the only control we have is winning/losing on Friday.
Personally, I want Marsha again.. whenever it may happen in the tournament.

Won't it depend on who else might be tied for first and how Marshall (and us) fared against them? I believe that we're still looking at a possible 7-way tie for first place. Friday night is going to be extremely interesting.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 6:36 amNot if Marshall wins out ss well. Based on this chain, if App wins, then Texas State would not be a part of the 7 and Marshall has the #1 tiebreaker between the 6, us with the 2nd best tiebreaker.Rick83 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 10:05 amWon't it depend on who else might be tied for first and how Marshall (and us) fared against them? Doesn't Troy (who could be one of the 7) hold the tiebreaker over Marshall? And we hold the tiebreaker over Troy. Marshall lost to Tx State. Re: MBB @ TXSt 02/27/26
If everyone wins out from here (except if we win, Texas St can't), there would be a 4 way tie at the top between Marshall, App, Troy and S. Alabama all at 12-6. The losses Marshall had against Texas State wouldn't matter and they'd be 3-1 against the teams they are tied against. We'd be 2-2, Troy would be 2-2, and S. Alabama would be 1-3. There is a possibility of a 7 way tie, however, that would mean App loses on Friday and this chain started with "if App wins on Friday".Rick83 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 11:02 amDoesn't Troy (who could be one of the 7) hold the tiebreaker over Marshall? Assuming we win, this is the most likely scenario given who the other three have left on the schedule. Marshall would be #1 and we would be #2, Troy #3, USA #4.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 11:20 amIf everyone wins out from here (except if we win, Texas St can't), there would be a 4 way tie at the top between Marshall, App, Troy and S. Three or More Teams Tiebreaking Formula
A. If all teams have played each other, the highest win-loss percentage of the tied teams against each other is first considered.
B. Each teams’ win-loss percentage vs. the team occupying the highest position in the final regular-season standings, and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
C. When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team’s record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to that group’s own tie-breaking procedure), rather than the performance against individual tied teams.
D. If the records are the same against all teams, the team with the better NET ranking published the day following the final regular season conference contest shall be awarded the higher seed.
E. If there is still a tie, the seeded position of the teams will be determined by a draw conducted by the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner.
F. For all ties of three or more teams, the progression of the tiebreaker shall be followed until the highest seed amongst the tied is determined. If one team falls out of contention for the higher seed, the remaining teams will continue down the tiebreaker until a higher seed is determined. Once the highest seed is determined, said team is removed from the pool of tied team and the tie of the remaining tied teams is broken by starting over from the beginning of the applicable tie-breaker.
Though the wording is a little unclear. If Marshall is the #1 seed, does it then mean we look at the record of us and Troy v. Marshall. If that's the case, then Troy has the win over Marshall versus our two losses.

I’m preparing myself for us being a 4-6 seed, but still hopeful for a top 2 seed.

Of the 5 games that mattered the past two days, the teams we wanted to lose all won.

I would assume a loss gives us a 6 seed given the others seem to have winnable games. But, given how the last two weeks have played out, anything seems possible.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Thu Feb 26, 2026 6:54 pmI’m preparing myself for us being a 4-6 seed, but still hopeful for a top 2 seed.

If the tournament was simply a 3 day with the top 8 that would be perfect. No byes just 8 teams pretty much even.

Insane that on Wednesday morning we were #1, and a single loss could bump us to #5 or #6. Would really like to claim that #2 spot considering our depth, huge game tonight.
