the administration is trying everything they can think of to get fans to the games, they are trying to be proactive, but, if Capels keeps losing, its really not going to matter, getting really tired of this, there just doesn't seem to be anything positive for the fans to get excited about, team, schedule, future recruits... nothing.

Gotta say, I don't think this loss is on Capel. The players shot 30% from the field in the first half and only went 9-22 from the charity stripe. 13 missed FT's and lost by 7. Capel isn't to blame for that. Often times late in the game Capel motioned for the team to pressure the ball full court and really only Burgess did until the end of the game. Now, if the players aren't fully listening to Capel then that's a larger issue. But I think just lack of execution was the reason for the loss here.
My concern right now is Capel's lack of using a bench. Played nine guys tonight which is more than the state game, but Neal, Tab and Burgess need more breaks. Canty will help spread that out when he returns. Want to see Ty Toney more. Kobani got good minutes tonight and Rantavious had a 2-3 minute cameo early and that's it.
Tough loss.

Gotta disagree with you on some of the first half woes. All of Capel's tenure has had a lack of defense and questionable calling. When 22 was hot in the first half, Capel had Spagnolo on him, but he also had him going to trap in the half court. When Camp started hitting 3's, we WENT into a 2-3 zone. We haven't had a honest to goodness press D since Buzz was here.Appheel wrote:Gotta say, I don't think this loss is on Capel. I actually thought the idea on defense was good early. I like double teaming the ball handler, off the screen, up top. That's what Brad Stevens did at Butler. However, you gotta communicate and rotate to the open man when you do that and way too many times, the 3 point shooters were left open and to their credit, they knocked them down. Capel needed to adjust quicker b/c we got in such a hole early, but again, part of that was also due to missing tons of wide open shots.
In terms of the zone, we may need to do some sort of a zone going forward because this new hand checking rule is garbage. Gonna make it really hard for us to check teams man to man. Burgess though is a really good defender. Really thought he was great last night.

Are best play was when Burgess was PG & Neal at SG. If only we had a good backup point to allow Neal to play more at SG.Appheel wrote:I actually thought the idea on defense was good early. The free throws I do take a little more aim at that with Capel. From what I have seen, they do not spend the time in practice they used to shooting free throws. They should have worked more with Obacha over the Summer as he shot a lot of FT's last year and, if you count missing front ends of 1&1's, shot well below 50%.
As for the Zone, we should have gone to something like a 3-2 zone that allowed better coverage on the outside when the 3's started coming.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

Touche. I only hope that Capel puts more emphasis on FT's this week in practice. Pretty clear that it needs work. Ty Toney is a guy that can run point as well. He's kind of a combo guy, but has pretty good handle. Ran some point in the State game. I'm guessing that he never saw any PT b/c we were making a comeback with the Burgess and Neal combo and Capel didn't want to mess that up. Maybe that's me giving him too much credit though.

ok...isnt it time we really consider getting rid of capel? yes only two games but it sounds like teams not listening...ie discipline. this wont look good for incoming players seeing a gym with 1000 fans and a losing record year after year. fire him and do something...otherwise recruits will be hesitant coming to a place where coach is in limbo...do it now...yeah fancher wasnt a marquee coach but we fired him for buckfuzz and then we get this offshoot after buzz bolted for sunnier beaches(by the way his team sucks there too!) cut our losses before anymore losses!

Just can't fall that far behind any decent team and expect to win. The guys put in a heck of an effort in trying to catch up but just to far to climb. Good to see that the students showed up but App needs to win a few to get them motivated.
Another tough loss at home.

Perhaps it is lack of depth being the reason for not substituting more from the bench.Appheel wrote:Gotta say, I don't think this loss is on Capel. Does anyone see this team winning more than 10 games (maybe 12 since we have so many non D1 teams) this season? We have no big man, inconsistent shooting, and very little D. Not a winning combo to say the least.

Well, we would have had Graham if he hadn't bailed, and we do have two current players out. So, that certainly hurts the depth coming off the bench. Obviously, if we continue to play as we did last night someone new will likely be at the helm next year.JTApps1 wrote:Which is a result of poor recruiting...JCline0429 wrote:Perhaps it is lack of depth being the reason for not substituting more from the bench.Appheel wrote:Gotta say, I don't think this loss is on Capel.
