I'm telling you, 2 or 3 examples made to run Howard's Knob will nip this blatant on going problem before quick. We want draw any more of those mental infractions again.AppGrad1 wrote:This is the time the AD or Peacock steps in and lays down the law to JM.

I figured it was a good week for me to take a self imposed vacation from the the board and not throw my hat into some of the discussions after our loss last week. Had to come back to make some noise on Gumroot week.WVAPPeer wrote:Wwhere the hell you been BS ? You had me worried

Re: Everyone should be happy with this one!
The discipline starts with the position coach, then goes to the coordinator and then the head coach. Most of our unsportsmanlike penalties have been on defensive players this year, if I'm not mistaken. The defensive staff has to be the ones to stop this first. Maybe that's why Coach Moore is just now getting pissed because it obviously hasn't been taken care of by the defensive staff. I'm not at all taking up for Coach Moore in this but there is a chain of command.

Agreed to an extent. We've seen these penalties over and over for the past few years and they continue. That is totally on the head coach imo.
He is not taking care of the problem at all. This is totally on Jerry now.
Time for administrative action.

Re: Everyone should be happy with this one!
The refs are also watching us very closely. I noticed, after our second unsportsmanlike, Miller got pushed way back (about 15 yards) by about 5 WC players and even thought he didn't go down he was fired up and angry, not that I blame him. The ref started to grab the flag but then he grabbed Miller and gave him an ear full. It would have been a completely ridiculous penalty as I've seen players show emotion all the time in a situation like that but what it means is that we have a reputation (not that the refs have been on our side for a while) and that we have to be even more careful or we are going to draw a flag.

The refs have cracked down more on celebration penalties as the year moves on. Stuff that players would have gotten away with in September are getting them flagged now.

Re: Everyone should be happy with this one!
What kind of administrative action would you suggest? I'll tell you exactly where this thing really starts. Watch highlights of high school football games. This behavior has become part of a culture of kids who think they are the top dog and strive to bring attention to themselves. I don't know if it's because they see it in the NFL or other pro sports or because they don't get enough positive attention off the field but not enough is done to stop it on that level either which makes it harder for college coaches to deal with it. It does, however, need to be dealt with especially when it costs us field position and directly leads to the other team scoring. It's going to take more than extra running, as coach Moore has mention in the past that the players are in good enough shape that it's not real punishment to make them run. I'm afraid it's going to take players having to sit out and I'm not sure we fans will accept that when it drastically affects whether we win or not. And that is why it's hard for us to judge what a coach does or does not do in these situations. It's never as easy as it seems it should be.goapps93 wrote:AppGrad1 wrote:goapps93 wrote:The discipline starts with the position coach, then goes to the coordinator and then the head coach. I do not know why that post posted so many times. Do I get credit for all three on my post count? That's one way to pad my posts I guess.

Not defending Blaylock but he was reacting back to Speir who was yelling at him. Thought Speir really showed his purple a$$ several times today. He spent a lot of time on the field and should have gotten a couple of flags. As far as this running thing, start it at 5am, all week for about 30minutes or more each day. If you see our "d" in the second half they are not in the greatest shape like we used to be. AND shame on you all for questioning our teams discipline. LOL

Is Jamaal going to be available next week? What's the latest on him?

According to DJ, Jackson will be available. he was actually available for the 2nd half yesterday (per doctors), which is great news. I think the coaches did exactly the right thing in resting him since it appears we now have a legit backup and he was doing pretty well.AppAttack wrote:Is Jamaal going to be available next week? Speir did show his colors yesterday, but he is the WCU head coach now. That's his job. Yes, he's lucky he didn't get flagged for going onto the field, but SoCon refs never seem to call that on our opponents (remember the old regime Furman games, or MM from JMU). Blaylock needs to show more sense. He's not a rookie, and turning to address the opponent is the definition of unsportsmanlike conduct. He let Speir push his button yesterday.Robert Norton wrote:Not defending Blaylock but he was reacting back to Speir who was yelling at him. The Kimbrough penalty for saluting our own fan base was ticky tack in my opinion but the guys obviously need to stop doing anything to call attention to themselves. It's a team sport and celebrations should be done as a team on the sideline.
I really think the rules are being taken to a rediculous level at this point.

What sticks out like a sore thumb to me is the fact the two penalties were called on upper class men. By the time players reach this stage they should be replied upon as leaders as opposed to getting flagged for freshmen mistakes.

Re: Everyone should be happy with this one!
Our age differences (us and the players) are showing here. The video games, the youtube posts, even our own video highlights all glorify the big plays and celebrations. These are a part of their everyday life and they are reacting to the moment. Sure it is trouble afterward and they are sorry, but in the moment they are not thinking.

Re: Everyone should be happy with this one!
Reminds me of a time during Basic Training. Without going into a lot of detail, one day I screwed up. The senior drill instructor asked, "Boy, why did you #$#$##!!!" I said, "Sir, I was not thinking and forgot." He said, "Boy, I spent a lot of time in Vietnam and saw people killed because some Punk like you forgot" after that, let's say it was a day from "hell". Anyway, you better believe I never made that mistake again.
