I was good with Scorching Squared.

No matter what, you can always count on a "this Boone restaurant closing" thread to nail all the oldies.

Re: Tapp Room closing…
Scorching squared Jamaican was my go to. I did try the hottest. They were habanero soaked over night in lemon juice is what one person told me that worked there. They were really hot to me at the time, probably could handle them better these days.
Worked at Rafters the last year it was open, was just a great place to hang out. I probably only broke up 2 fights and both were out of town people causing issues. I got the job because we were there Wed and Thursday way to long for drink til you drown.

Same. Accompanied by Newcastle in my white ceramic mug that hung on the wall. I can't remember if an order was 10 or 12, but I could eat two.biggie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 16, 2026 1:14 pmScorching squared Jamaican was my go to. I did try the hottest. Recently I had to explain to my daughter that you could only get beer and wine at restaurants in Boone for a long time. She was dumbfounded.

Unfortunately the only relations I had were with pitchers of beer that if I remember correctly were only $1.25? Somebody correct me if my memory isn’t right. Maybe $1.75? Either way it was cheap. Especially by today’s standard.

Here are some oldies because in the old days you could only buy beer in Blowing Rock. Lots of BR beer dives! Hard Rock, Yellow Submarine, Hollys , Villa Maria, Red Dog Saloon, Library Club. I was more of a liquid diet guy once I got to Blowing Rock. Food was kind of a secondary issue.

Drink and drown at Mother Fletchers or PB’s. If I recall beers were either a nickel or a quarter circa 1982. Tow up for less than $5. It was probably PBR so once you got a couple down it was smooth sailing. Amazing how little a crappy 12 pack cost. Seem to recall Busch light at about $3.50 a 12 pack. Damn I was a poor student.

Re: Tapp Room closing…
I know PB's had ten cent draft a couple of nights a week. Me and some buddys would order 30 at a time on a round tray for $3.00. Fun for all!Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 8:50 amDrink and drown at Mother Fletchers or PB’s. If I recall beers were either a nickel or a quarter circa 1982. Tow up for less than $5. Re: Tapp Room closing…
I thought I was one of, if not the oldest fart on here...But I see I have company.
Food - in no particular order
Yogi's - turkey grinder; Boone Drug - hot dogs; Ray's - only if it was the only thing open; Chanelo's; Sollecito's; Buck's Biscuits. Holly Farms; The Mountain House
Chuck's Steaks; The Peddler; Western Steer - $5.99 special, steak, baked, salad bar, tea; Woodlands;
Watering holes - PB Scott's; Clydes; Holley's, The Library Club / Mother Fletchers West; Antlers.
Library Club/Mother's Happy hour on Fridays were always off the hook. 10 cent draft and $1.00 bottled quarts.
Anyone else remember timing the visit to Clyde's for when the Bud delivery truck was coming? The driver always furnished a round to the house.

Oh man, now you did it! Yogis made some of the best subs that I've ever tasted and had, without a doubt the best Dill pickles on the planet. Chuck's Steak House had a teriyaki sirloin that was heaven.Apptiger wrote: ↑Sat Jan 17, 2026 2:48 pmI thought I was one of, if not the oldest fart on here...But I see I have company.

Drink & drown at Mother Fletchers. I think beer was a quarter. I remember playing the drinking game called quarters where you bounced a quarter off the table and into a cup of beer. Make it and tell someone to drink. Cups piled a mile high. Stupid but fun. Ah, youth.
