He seems to be making the rounds, that's good to see. I know he can only do so much, but a little improvement will go along ways. Mainly it would be great just to get the students excited about going to the games.

Can't help but wonder if there are any desirable potential recruits left out there? Some late bloomers?

He already seems more engaged that the previous staff.Maddog1956 wrote:He seems to be making the rounds, that's good to see. I know he can only do so much, but a little improvement will go along ways. Mainly it would be great just to get the students excited about going to the games.

There is a great number of good basketball players that never get recruited, it's just knowing how to find them. When one of you best recruits comes from the SRC, you're in trouble. (Not saying anything bad about Spagnolo, but the fact he was unknown, even with his dad working on campus).JCline0429 wrote:Can't help but wonder if there are any desirable potential recruits left out there? I think Capel, was looking for athletic kids who didn't necessarily make good, disciplined, fundamental players. They might run on you the first half, but eventually you get tired, make mistakes and have overall low scoring.
If Fox can find some shooters, that are willing to work as a team and work hard, I think he'll do just fine. Like I said before we have plenty of room for improvement.

I think its about 50% more than what we were spending a decade ago (plus we added a DOB position, which is getting a real salary). This should be a good staff at our level . . . though or level might be a low-major, not mid-major.kiddbrewer wrote:Just out of curiosity,
Does that mean, $200,000 total for 3 assistants? I don't know anything about mid major salaries for assistants, but that doesn't seem like a lot to me.The contract includes a salary pool of $200,000 for three assistant-coaching positions

Just listening to the press conference he sounds like Billy Crystal but has the emotion and passion of the late Jim Valvano. Im pumped.....may get season tickets for the first time. SIDE NOTE....First time I have a schedule and financial situation to do so.
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

Thanks for the info, I have no idea what is a reasonable salary for assistants.HeffnerIV wrote:I'm no expert, but this breaks out to a pretty good budget, I think. You're talking about approximately 90,000+ for a number one, 60,000 for a two, and 50,000 for a three. That three is going to be a young guy fresh to the bench and probably a newer grad. Do we know of there are incentives for the assistants too?kiddbrewer wrote:Just out of curiosity,
