I would be very surprised if it was not a sellout but I just don't see big numbers from Miami.
On a separate note our season ticket sales are pitiful. I was very surprised and discouraged by the number.

That would be correct. Our support is woefully thin from the alumni base. I know quite a few grads from the 2002-2004 (my daughters friend and members of my fraternity) that dont give a dime...........appbio91 wrote:More disappointing is I believe I heard him say there are only a couple thousand that contribute to Yosef. Gillen said our sales for this year was 4,500 (BTW, I have had season tickets for years) which is a disappointing number to me. What do you guys think?

Re: Hosting "The U"
I'm not good at many things, but my math typically works.
KBS has 21,650 permanent seats. The current temporary seats hold let's say 2,500. That's 24,150.
9k students, 2k Miami, 6k season ticket holders (your estimate), let's say half of the season ticket holders buy single game tickets for their friends (I have six seats and know I'll buy six for friends), don't forget the 500-1000 comp and consignment tickets, that's 21k tickets sold leaving only 3k in permanent seats.
We've averaged 24k this year, so we 've had single game ticket sales of ~10-12k a game.
If demand was constant and we know it will be higher, only 25% (certainly not more than 35%) of those fans that rely on single game tickets will be sitting in the permanent seating sections on 9/17.

It's okay, the casual fans can sit on the hill until half-time when they will leave anywaySaint3333 wrote:I'm not good at many things, but my math typically works.

Re: Hosting "The U"
IMO, as an enticement, the season ticket pricing shouldn't change dramatically and we could charge a substantial amount more for individual tickets sold for the Miami game. So there would be the element of individual game ticket scarcity and a "discount" in pricing to hopefully drive season ticket sales.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I wonder if we made money on this deal right off the bat. UMass paid $350K for the buyout. I would think that we paid NCCU considerably less and if we helped them land another game (not mentioned anywhere that I know) we should be ahead on that piece. The U game will bring in big bucks from ticket sales. Hopefully our conference home games will be decent although we know Ark St, ULL, Stink and Troy will be on the road. Any thoughts as to what our home slate might look like? God I hope it isn't GA St, Texas St and New Mexico St (something to that effect). With none of the bigger boys at our place we will undoubtedly avoid a Thursday game.

Re: Hosting "The U"
Hope we don't do away with the half-season plans. As much as I love football Saturdays in Boone, it's just not realistic for me to make the six-hour round trip six times in three months right now. And I know we have many alumni around Charlotte, the Triad and the Triangle who are in the same boat. That's why our season ticket sales are low IMO - it's not lack of interest, it's just the proportion of our fans who are 2-3 hours away.

Re: Hosting "The U"
Been to a few Wake/Miami games in WS, they don't travel well. Its a private school with good academics, the athletic teams are nothing like the general student body. They probably have a good tv viewing fan base, but not a good "in the stadium" viewing fan base. It will be almost all App fans at the game.

I agree. Same hours of drive for me. Plan on making the Tennessee game which is even further. Can't swing Tennessee and two home games in three consecutive weeks. Hopefully they will offer half season, and I will buy whatever package includes the Miami game.EastHallApp wrote:Hope we don't do away with the half-season plans. Re: Hosting "The U"
Other than a Miami team that hasn't been relevant in years, what attractive home games do we have next season? Keep in mind we played ULL, Ark ST, and Georgia Southern at home this year, meaning a likely away game next year.
I love the optimistic thinking that season tickets jump, but I just can't see it. Do you feel people will pay the price of six home games just to see one? When the complete schedule is released we will have a better feel for season tickets. If the Sun Belt back loads home games to November or gives us two Thursday home games, season ticket sales aren't going anywhere.

Re: Hosting "The U"
Hopefully Gillin won't do the half packages until the schedule is finalized to try and increase ticket purchases. Place the Miami game with 2 of the following in order: Thanksgiving Saturday game, the Tuesday game, the Thursday game(s) and if no weekday games NMSU, Idaho, ULM, Texas St and GaSt. This of course assumes some posters on the Sun Belt board are correct about stAte and USA dropping off the schedule.
Hopefully App won't end up with 3 Turkey Saturdays in a row but if so, this should definitely be apart of the package with the U. I would think the conference will have App travel to NMSU and Texas St. will be in Boone so our boys wouldn't have to fly to both NMSU and Idaho in 2017 venturing the SB extends the contract. I'm guessing the Panthers will bring the most so they should be the last team added to a package.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I think season ticket sales this year had less to do with the opponents and more to do with the dates, two Thursday, a Halloween, and a Thanksgiving game.
If we avoid mid-week games (or even just limit it to one)and Thanksgiving weekend home games I could see us doubling season ticket sales.
We've been well over 4,500 season tickets in prior years.

Part of the deal was to give Miami 2000 tickets, which is about 1000-1500 more than we give most visiting teams.bcoach wrote:I would be very surprised if it was not a sellout but I just don't see big numbers from Miami.

Re: Hosting "The U"
No, this WILL increase season/half season ticket sales...especially if they stay reasonable. Like my demographic (late 20's/early 30's), I haven't bought season tickets like many of my peers because of weddings, traveling, young kids, etc.; but i fully plan to next year. Even i cannot make it to every game.
Our athletic department needs to target my demographic more. We were in school for the victory years, care about football and know how much a good team can help the university. We will begin to buy more tickets (maybe season) as life evolves and allows us to make it up more.

Re: Hosting "The U"
I may be wrong about this, but we don't know for sure that all the good home games from this year will be on the road next year. Since we change up which teams we play, there's no guarantee that we automatically travel to GaSo and LaLa, etc next year. I have seen years in other leagues that do this where you may have back to back home or road games vs an opponent, so I don't think we can safely assume that all the attractive conference games will be on the road.

Re: Hosting "The U"
That would be more difficult from a schedulers perspective so I doubt it.
We will drop one 2015 home opponent known (Ark St.) and one away opponent (likely USA or ULM). They will be replaced by NMSU and Texas St.
Most Likely:
SBC Home - GA St., ULM, Idaho, Texas St.
SBC Away - GS, ULL, Troy, NMSU
Still think the dates will impact season ticket sales more than conference opponents.

One of the names being mentioned for the Miami job is Mario Christobal, the former head coach at FIU when Coach Satt and Coach Ponce were at FIU. If he gets the job this would make for an additional good story for this game. Looking forward to the game already.

Re: Hosting "The U"
One reason that ODU is selling nearly 3x the season tickets that we are, in my opinion, is because their fans aren't so obsessed with being "realistic". On their message board, they're convinced that they're P5 bound and will tell you so with a straight face. Here, we have fans who go out of their way to put down fellow fans for being "arrogant" and having high expectations for our program. Our fan base has a long way to go, but if we can really capitalize on our alumni and get them engaged in the future, LOOK OUT.
