Tae Hayes and Ike Lewis get misdemeanor A&B charges for the fight. More to come.
What a bunch of idiots. Hopefully Fuller fully recovers, but they should have not been put in this position. I would assume Lewis, Fuller and Hayes are off the team as well.

I wouldn't assume that. Two charged with misdemeanors, Fuller charged with nothing so far (depending on whether he's one of the additional three pending). Do any of them have any previous disciplinary or legal troubles? Would be unusual to kick guys off the team for that, at least permanently. Maybe a minor suspension with conditions for reinstatement.

Re: Player Stabbed
Just as a quick reference, each of those charged and filed so far were charged under NCGS 14-33 Sub A. For those who don't want to take the time to look it up here is the relevant part of GS 14-33.
§ 14-33. Misdemeanor assaults, batteries, and affrays, simple and aggravated; punishments.
(a) Any person who commits a simple assault or a simple assault and battery or participates in a simple affray is guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.
For a suspect with no prior convictions who is found guilty or pleads no contest, Class 2 misdemeanors are subject to 1-30 days of Community Punishment. No Intermediate Punishment or Active Punishment is involved.
In short, a conviction for those with no prior convictions usually results in community service and a fine. It can include probation but isn't usually the case for first time offenders unless there are other circumstances involved. If any have priors then the level increases and the CS and fine will be more and probation comes more into play.
All this will play out in court. As for the team, there will be punishments and they will have Mike turned loose on them. By the time he's finished they will wish they had never even thought of going out that night.

Re: Player Stabbed
Getting kicked off the team for a fight is going overboard. I mean fights happen on the practice field all the time during fall camp. Just guessing here, but I think at worst you'll see a one game suspension.boonetown1 wrote:T-Dog wrote:http://www.wataugademocrat.com/watauga/ ... 15193.html

No surprise here. Now we'll see what happens once the court case is adjudicated and punishment is served.

They haven't been kicked off the team. I doubt they will be based on what has been published. Obviously, the school will wait to see what transpires in court.

This appears to be a little different than a fight on the field.JTApps1 wrote:Getting kicked off the team for a fight is going overboard. Re: Player Stabbed
Getting taken off the roster for a suspension always happens.
This is misdemeanor assault and battery and nothing else. Community service and that's it.

Re: Player Stabbed
The main difference is a kid pulled a knife, BUT he was not one of our players so until we find out something different all they did was get in a fight. Should they have put themselves in that position? No, but people are quick to pull a weapon these days instead of settling the old.fashion way.bcoach wrote:This appears to be a little different than a fight on the field.JTApps1 wrote:Getting kicked off the team for a fight is going overboard. Re: Player Stabbed
Here is what it LOOKS like. It looks like they left one place and went to another with the intention of a fight. They are damn lucky it was a knife that was pulled. Guilty or innocent they are just plain STUPID! I am very glad they are alive.

Re: Player Stabbed
What is going on with this situation? Can anyone be more specific? Seems like this situation that was essentially a fight is already having a negative impact on the season. Our player was the one that got stabbed, why are the Boone police now issuing warrants for other players weeks after the fact. What the hell are they doing?

Re: Player Stabbed
This is what happens when people don't actually do their research before putting a story out. And the actual story is from the Associated Press, picked off the wire by WLOS and being retweeted by others. Not only is the headline wrong but the story itself doesn't really clear things up. They do mention the guy who did the actual stabbing at the bottom but never say he's the one who did it. His charge is listed, which is the more serious charge. If someone knows about the law and charges they might be able to figure it out but of course it's the headline that gets all the attention. And to anyone who sees that headline it appears that our players are stabbing each other.

Re: Player Stabbed
WLOS blew that one for sure. It seems Asheville media has had a bone to pick with APP since we went FBS. Now all they have to talk and write about is WCU and a considerably less sexy SoCon.

Wouldn't you if that's all you had to write about? Of course, they could just lose the zeroes and go with the heroes, but I guess that would be too easy.CVAPP wrote:WLOS blew that one for sure. Re: Player Stabbed
Now the ACT is running the story and saying it came from the W-SJ, including a link. Except that's not what the story in the Journal says. What a bunch of idiots.

I've always called our hometown paper the Asheville Citizen-Crime because it's a crime to call anything they print "journalism".
